Abstract: In this work, silver nanoparticles (AgNP-DTa) were prepared using an aqueous seed extract of D. trifoliata. The importance of the present piece of work is viewed specially with respect to ascertaining the potential of a widely distributed under-utilized mangrove associated plant, Derris trifoliata (DT), as medicine. The as-prepared AgNP-DTa were well dispersed and stabilised in aqueous solution through biological ligands extracted from the seeds of DT. The functional groups present in the bio-ligands of DT act as reducing and stabilising agents in the formation of nanoparticles. Besides, in the present work, sunlight could induce and catalyse the reduction process of Ag+ to its corresponding silver atoms of nanoscale dimensions. The size of AgNP-DTa decreased with an increase in the duration of sunlight irradiation. Bio-augmented nanoparticles were characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, XRD, HR-TEM, DLS, AFM and photoluminescence measurements. Preliminary phytochemical studies and FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of secondary metabolites with hydroxyl, amine and carbonyl groups as reducing/capping agents. AgNP-DTa demonstrated high DPPH scavenging activity with an IC 50 value of 8.25 μg ml−1. Greater antioxidant activity of AgNP-DTa was also confirmed from total antioxidant capacity (TAC) assay where it was found that the reducing power of 1 g of AgNP-DTa is almost equivalent to that of 1.3 g of Trolox. In addition, highly stable AgNP-DTa showed antibacterial activities against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. The as-prepared AgNP-DTa were observed to inhibit the growth of Klebsiella pneumonia, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and no clear zone was obtained for Pseudomonas aeruginosa. With reference to the anti-proliferative activities, AgNP-DTa exhibited moderate activity on A549 lung cancer cell lines with a median effective concentration of 86.23 ± 0.22 μg ml−1.

Abstract: Chronic stress is known to result in impairment of learning and memory and precipitate several affective disorders including depression and anxiety. Drugs of natural origin are known to possess several effects on the central nervous system and are emerging as promising alternative therapies. In this context, the hydroalcoholic extract of Euphorbia hirta (Eh) was evaluated for anxiolytic property in chronically stressed rats subjected to elevated plus maze (EPM) and open field test (OFT). Eh treatment (200 mg/kg, p.o.; seven days) showed marked anti-anxiety activity in chronic immobilization stress. In contrast, the forced swim stress-induced anxiety was only partially decreased by Eh. Co-treatment of rats with flumazenil (0.5 mg/kg, i.p.), bicuculline (1 mg/kg, i.p.) or picrotoxin (1 mg/kg, i.p.) resulted in a significant reduction of anxiolytic effect of Eh indicating that its actions are mediated through GABAA receptor-benzodiazepine receptor-Cl− channel complex. Thus, our studies indicate that Eh is a potential anxiolytic drug, which might be beneficial in the treatment of stress-induced anxiety disorders.

Abstract: Prediction of the rotational displacements, induced by earthquake is a key aspect of the seismic design of retaining walls. In this paper, the pseudodynamic method is used to compute rotational displacements of the retaining wall supporting cohesionless backfill under seismic loading. The proposed method considers time, phase difference, and effect of amplification in shear and primary waves propagating through the backfill and the retaining wall. The influence of ground motion characteristics on rotational displacement of the wall is evaluated. Also the effects of variation of parameters like wall friction angle, soil friction angle, amplification factor, shear wave velocity, primary wave velocity, period of lateral shaking, horizontal, and vertical seismic accelerations on the rotational displacements are studied. Abstract: Increasing business organizations are also damaging the natural infrastructure, and researchers are pressing hard on this issue since several decades. Moreover, the studies relating to business organizations only focus on the establishment, development, and success of businesses and paid less attention to the dark trade business expansions, i.e., lack of green innovation and increase in pollution and environment damages. Keeping in view these issues, this study is aimed at investigating the effect of green dynamic capabilities, green practices, and green value co-creation on green innovation in SMEs (small and medium enterprises). This study also tested the mediating role of value co-creation in the links between green practices-green innovation and green dynamic capability-green innovation. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used, and the mediation analysis was conducted through Preacher and Hayes Approach (2004, 2008) and through Soble test. Empirical results proved that green dynamic capabilities, green practices, and green value co-creation improve the mechanism of green innovation in SMEs.
