Structural and Functional Analysis of the D614G SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein Variant.

TLDR
It is shown that D614G was more infectious than the ancestral form on human lung cells, colon cells, and on cells rendered permissive by ectopic expression of human ACE2 or of ACE2 orthologs from various mammals, including Chinese rufous horseshoe bat and Malayan pangolin.

Key mutations on spike protein altering ACE2 receptor utilization and potentially expanding host range of emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants

TL;DR: In this article , the authors evaluated the impact of S mutations on the spike protein (S) of SARS-CoV-2 and found that T478I and N501Y substitutions were two S mutations important for receptor adaption, potentially contributing to spillover of the virus to many other animal hosts.

Nanomechanical analysis of SARS-CoV-2 variants and predictions of infectiousness and lethality

Yiwen Hu, +1 more
- 20 Jul 2022 -
TL;DR: A predictive model that associates molecular motions and vibrational patterns of the virus spike protein with infectiousness and lethality and the nanomechanical approach, as a novel tool to predict virus-cell interactions, may further open up the door towards better understanding other viruses.

Variation analysis of SARS-CoV-2 complete sequences from Iran

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated all the complete sequences of SARS-CoV-2 that publicly reported from Iran and analyzed the amino acid changes related to the spike glycoprotein as an important viral factor associated with the entry to the host cells.

Loss of furin site enhances SARS-CoV-2 spike protein pseudovirus infection

TL;DR: In this article , a Luc/eGFP based on a pseudotyped lentiviral HIV-1 system was constructed to transduce SARS-CoV-2 S glycoprotein to detect cell entry properties and cellular tropism.
