TL;DR: A simple method for identifying acceptable noise exposures has been developed from the NAS-NRC CHABA report describing hazardous exposures to intermittent and steady-state noise.
Abstract: A simple method for identifying acceptable noise exposures has been developed from the NAS-NRC CHABA report describing hazardous exposures to intermittent and steady-state noise. First, an exposure was imagined in which the noise dropped to harmless levels periodically, thereby creating a number of identical exposure cycles distributed uniformly throughout the day. Next, the total duration of noise allowable per day was calculated for 39 different patterns of interrupted exposure, using the CHABA charts. This total noise duration permissible daily increased rapidly with the number of interruptions, passed through a maximum value for interruptions about 5 minutes in length, and became constant for noise interrupted every 2 minutes or oftener. Nine general contours of equinoxious octave-band sound pressure levels evolved from this analysis, and the A-weighted sound level equivalent to each contour was determined for noises of manufacturing industries. It is concluded that acceptable noise exposures...

11 Jul 1969TL;DR: In this paper, a process for solid-state diffusion of silicon into sheet steel containing not more than 0.05 percent carbon is described, and the process includes preparing sheet steel by conventional methods of melting, pouring and rolling, coating the surfaces of the sheet steel with a layer of powder containing about 15 percent to about 95 percent silicon and the remainder substantially calcium, iron and incidental impurities.
Abstract: A process for solid-state diffusion of silicon into sheet steel containing not more than 0.05 percent carbon, the process including preparing sheet steel by conventional methods of melting, pouring and rolling, coating the surfaces of the sheet steel with a layer of powder containing about 15 percent to about 95 percent silicon and the remainder substantially calcium, iron and incidental impurities, compacting the powder onto the sheet and heat treating the composite thus formed in a protective environment to cause a solid-state diffusion of the diffusible silicon into the sheet steel.

26 Apr 1993TL;DR: In this article, a tool for removing a worn nozzle insert from a steelmaking vessel is described, including a support frame, a gripper assembly, and a drive piston for applying a force to the gripper.
Abstract: A nozzle extraction tool for removing a worn nozzle insert from a steelmaking vessel. The nozzle extraction tool including a support frame, a gripper assembly, and a drive piston for applying a force to the gripper assembly. The gripper assembly includes pivotal gripper arms and a rod assembly for pivoting and rotating the gripper assembly 360° about the longitudinal axis of the worn nozzle insert. The rod assembly enables the gripper arms to be securely seated against the uneven surfaces of the worn discharge bore extending through the nozzle insert.
