09 Nov 2005TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a novel method for manufacturing a field effect transistor. But this method required that ultraviolet rays are irradiated on the substrate surface in an ozone atmosphere, plasma is irradiated onto the substrate surfaces, or the surface is cleaned by a chemical solution containing hydrogen peroxide.
Abstract: Provided is a novel method for manufacturing a field effect transistor. Prior to forming an amorphous oxide layer on a substrate, ultraviolet rays are irradiated onto the substrate surface in an ozone atmosphere, plasma is irradiated onto the substrate surface, or the substrate surface is cleaned by a chemical solution containing hydrogen peroxide.

TL;DR: In this article, the electronic dipole moment and its polarization dependence are analyzed, and it is shown that the gain becomes maximum when the electric field of light is parallel to the longest side of the quantum box.
Abstract: Gain and threshold current density are analyzed for quantum-box lasers where electrons are confined in quantum well three-dimensionally, based on the density-matrix theory of semiconductor lasers with relaxation broadening. The electronic dipole moment and its polarization dependence are first analyzed, and it is shown that the gain becomes maximum when the electric field of light is parallel to the longest side of the quantum box. Calculated gain is about 10 times that of bulk crystal for 100 A × 100 A × 100 A GaAs/Ga 0.8 Al 0.2 As quantum box, and 15 times for Ga 0.47 In 0.53 As/InP quantum box with the same size, respectively. The threshold current density are 45 A/cm2and 62 A/cm2for GRINSCH GaAs/(Ga 0.8 Al 0.2 As-Ga 0.4 Al 0.6 As) and Ga 0.47 In 0.53 As/(Ga 0.28 In 0.72 As 0.6 P 0.4 -InP), respectively, where for the GaInAs/ GaInAsP/InP system the intervalence band absorption and nonradiative recombinations have been assumed to be the same as those obtained for bulk crystals experimentally. These results show the possibility of remarkable reduction in the laser threshold by the quantum-box structures.

TL;DR: This work identifies the ecological and molecular basis of divergent evolution in the cichlid visual system, demonstrates associated divergence in male colouration and female preferences, and shows subsequent differentiation at neutral loci, indicating reproductive isolation.
Abstract: Theoretically, divergent selection on sensory systems can cause speciation through sensory drive. However, empirical evidence is rare and incomplete. Here we demonstrate sensory drive speciation within island populations of cichlid fish. We identify the ecological and molecular basis of divergent evolution in the cichlid visual system, demonstrate associated divergence in male colouration and female preferences, and show subsequent differentiation at neutral loci, indicating reproductive isolation. Evidence is replicated in several pairs of sympatric populations and species. Variation in the slope of the environmental gradients explains variation in the progress towards speciation: speciation occurs on all but the steepest gradients. This is the most complete demonstration so far of speciation through sensory drive without geographical isolation. Our results also provide a mechanistic explanation for the collapse of cichlid fish species diversity during the anthropogenic eutrophication of Lake Victoria.

TL;DR: In this paper, the modular multilevel cascade converter (MMCC) family based on cascade connection of multiple bidirectional chopper cells or single-phase full-bridge cells is classified from circuit configuration.
Abstract: This paper discusses the modular multilevel cascade converter (MMCC) family based on cascade connection of multiple bidirectional chopper cells or single-phase full-bridge cells. The MMCC family is classified from circuit configuration as follows: the single-star bridge cells (SSBC); the single-delta bridge cells (SDBC); the double-star chopper cells (DSCC); and the double-star bridge cells (DSBC). The term MMCC corresponds to a family name in a person while, for example, the term SSBC corresponds to a given name. Therefore, the term “MMCC-SSBC” can identify the circuit configuration without any confusion. Among the four MMCC family members, the SSBC and DSCC are more practical in cost, performance, and market than the others although a distinct difference exists in application between the SSBC and DSCC. This paper presents application examples of the SSBC to a battery energy storage system (BESS), the SDBC to a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) for negative-sequence reactive-power control, and the DSCC to a motor drive for fans and blowers, along with their experimental results.

TL;DR: Elliot et al. as mentioned in this paper presented the AGQ-Revised and conducted a study that examined the measure's structural validity and predictive utility with 229 (76 male, 150 female, 3 unspecified) undergraduates.
Abstract: The authors identified several specific problems with the measurement of achievement goals in the current literature and illustrated these problems, focusing primarily on A. J. Elliot and H. A. McGregor's (2001) Achievement Goal Questionnaire (AGQ). They attended to these problems by creating the AGQ-Revised and conducting a study that examined the measure's structural validity and predictive utility with 229 (76 male, 150 female, 3 unspecified) undergraduates. The hypothesized factor and dimensional structures of the measure were confirmed and shown to be superior to a host of alternatives. The predictions were nearly uniformly supported with regard to both the antecedents (need for achievement and fear of failure) and consequences (intrinsic motivation and exam performance) of the 4 achievement goals. In discussing their work, the authors highlight the importance and value of additional precision in the area of achievement goal measurement.
