Journal ArticleDOI

A review on α-mangostin as a potential multi-target-directed ligand for Alzheimer's disease.

TL;DR: In this paper, the multi-target-directed ligand (MTDL) based on "one molecule, multiple targets" has been studied to regulate multiple biological targets at the same time, which has shown higher efficacy, better safety.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gonadoprotective ability of Vincetoxicum arnottianum extract against bisphenol A-induced testicular toxicity and hormonal imbalance in male Sprague Dawley rats.

TL;DR: Altered level of luteinizing hormone, testosterone and follicle‐stimulating hormone in serum, and level of antioxidants in testis tissues of BPA‐induced toxicity were significantly restored by VAM, suggesting the presence of polyphenols and alkaloids might contribute towards the scavenging and ameliorative potential of VAM in testicular toxicity induced by BPA.
Journal ArticleDOI

The potential role of ischaemia–reperfusion injury in chronic, relapsing diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Long COVID, and ME/CFS: evidence, mechanisms, and therapeutic implications

TL;DR: In this article , the authors argue that I-R injury also underpins elements of the pathology of a variety of chronic, inflammatory diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, ME/CFS and, most proximally, Long COVID.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impairment of type H vessels by NOX2-mediated endothelial oxidative stress: critical mechanisms and therapeutic targets for bone fragility in streptozotocin-induced type 1 diabetic mice.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the role of NOX2-mediated endothelial oxidative stress in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and found that the severity of osteopathy was positively related to glycemic levels.
Journal ArticleDOI

Antioxidant Activity of Graphene Quantum Dots Prepared in Different Electrolyte Environments

TL;DR: The antioxidant mechanism of GQDs and how to improve their antioxidant activity are further elucidated and the effects of an electrolytic environment on the surface functional groups, charge transfer capability, and defect states of G QDs are obtained.

Free radicals in biology and medicine

TL;DR: 1. Oxygen is a toxic gas - an introduction to oxygen toxicity and reactive species, and the chemistry of free radicals and related 'reactive species'
Journal ArticleDOI

The Amyloid Hypothesis of Alzheimer's Disease: Progress and Problems on the Road to Therapeutics

TL;DR: It has been more than 10 years since it was first proposed that the neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease (AD) may be caused by deposition of amyloid β-peptide in plaques in brain tissue and the rest of the disease process is proposed to result from an imbalance between Aβ production and Aβ clearance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Free radicals and antioxidants in normal physiological functions and human disease

TL;DR: Attention is focussed on the ROS/RNS-linked pathogenesis of cancer, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, hypertension, ischemia/reperfusion injury, diabetes mellitus, neurodegenerative diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, and ageing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Targeting cancer cells by ROS-mediated mechanisms: a radical therapeutic approach?

TL;DR: It is argued that modulating the unique redox regulatory mechanisms of cancer cells might be an effective strategy to eliminate these cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of vitamin E and beta carotene on the incidence of lung cancer and other cancers in male smokers

TL;DR: No reduction in the incidence of lung cancer among male smokers is found after five to eight years of dietary supplementation with alpha-tocopherol or beta carotene, and this trial raises the possibility that these supplements may actually have harmful as well as beneficial effects.
