Targeting Free Radicals in Oxidative Stress-Related Human Diseases.

TLDR
Metal chelation, based on the application of selective metal chelators or metal delivery, may induce neuroprotective signaling and represents a promising therapeutic strategy in cancer and AD.

Isoeucommin A attenuates kidney injury in diabetic nephropathy through the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.

TL;DR: Isoeucommin A is a lignan compound isolated from Eucommia-ulmoides Oliv, which has not been studied in detail as discussed by the authors, and it can alleviate inflammation and oxidative stress in in vitro and in vivo diabetic nephropathy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cdh5-mediated Fpn1 deletion exerts neuroprotective effects during the acute phase and inhibitory effects during the recovery phase of ischemic stroke

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors showed that FPN1 deficiency in microvascular endothelial cells (ECs) delayed the recovery of neurological function in mice following ischemic stroke.

Measurement of Reactive Oxygen Species by Fluorescent Probes in Pancreatic Cancer Cells

TL;DR: The protocol for comparative measurement of several key forms of ROS, including intracellular and mitochondrial levels of superoxide as well as extracellular H2O2 and general cellular ROS, with oxidation-sensitive fluorescent probes using flow cytometry in pancreatic cancer cells or mutant KRAS transformed cells is described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Recapitulating Antioxidant and Antibacterial Compounds into a Package for Tissue Regeneration: Dual Function Materials with Synergistic Effect

TL;DR: In this article , the principles of antioxidant and antibacterial activity are summarized and the chemistry and mechanism of action of dual-function biomaterials (dual function) are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Paeoniflorin protects PC12 cells from oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation-induced injury via activating JAK2/STAT3 signaling

TL;DR: In this paper, the role of Paeoniflorin (PF) in oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R)-induced injury of PC12 cells and its association with the Janus kinase 2 (JAK2)/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) pathway was investigated.

Journal ArticleDOI

The Amyloid Hypothesis of Alzheimer's Disease: Progress and Problems on the Road to Therapeutics

TL;DR: It has been more than 10 years since it was first proposed that the neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease (AD) may be caused by deposition of amyloid β-peptide in plaques in brain tissue and the rest of the disease process is proposed to result from an imbalance between Aβ production and Aβ clearance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Free radicals and antioxidants in normal physiological functions and human disease

TL;DR: Attention is focussed on the ROS/RNS-linked pathogenesis of cancer, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, hypertension, ischemia/reperfusion injury, diabetes mellitus, neurodegenerative diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, and ageing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Targeting cancer cells by ROS-mediated mechanisms: a radical therapeutic approach?

TL;DR: It is argued that modulating the unique redox regulatory mechanisms of cancer cells might be an effective strategy to eliminate these cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of vitamin E and beta carotene on the incidence of lung cancer and other cancers in male smokers

TL;DR: No reduction in the incidence of lung cancer among male smokers is found after five to eight years of dietary supplementation with alpha-tocopherol or beta carotene, and this trial raises the possibility that these supplements may actually have harmful as well as beneficial effects.
