The anatomical properties of Scabiosa atropurpurea L. (Caprifoliaceae)
TL;DR: The anatomy of leaf, stem, and root of S. atropurpurea, a medicinal plant traditionally known as “Mor uyuzotu or Şeytanotu” in Turkey, is investigated, finding that the leaves are bifacial and amphistomatic and stomata are mesomorphic in the cross section and also stomATA are anomocytic in the surface section.

Redox Regulation in the Base Excision Repair Pathway: Old and New Players as Cancer Therapeutic Targets.
Aleksandra Rajapakse,Amila Suraweera,Didier Boucher,Ali Naqi,Kenneth J. O'Byrne,Derek J. Richard,Laura V. Croft +6 more
TL;DR: The role and the redox regulation of key proteins involved in the initial stages of BER of 8-oxoG damage, namely apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1), human8-oxoguanine DNA glycosylase-1 (hOGG1) and human single-stranded DNA binding protein 1 (hSSB1) are described and the therapeutic potential and modalities of targeting these key proteins in cancer are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Review on oxidative stress relation on COVID-19: Biomolecular and bioanalytical approach.
TL;DR: In this article, modern bioelectroanalytical techniques for their detection and determination, which could indicate the disease state at the golden time window since they have the potential to show whether specific DNA, RNA, enzymes and proteins are affected.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combination of cyanidin-3-O-glucoside and cisplatin induces oxidative stress and apoptosis in HeLa cells by reducing activity of endogenous antioxidants, increasing bax/bcl-2 mRNA expression ratio, and downregulating Nrf2 expression
TL;DR: In this paper, the cytotoxic effect (apoptosis-related and oxidative stress-related effect) of cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (C3G), cisplatin (DDP), and their combination (c3G-DDP) on cervical cancer HeLa cells was determined by employing fluorescent marker 2',7'-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamic supraparticles for the treatment of age-related diseases
TL;DR: Hopefully, this review will bridge the knowledge of the design principle of DS and ARDs management, which may inspire the future development of potent theranostic agents to improve the healthcare.

The Amyloid Hypothesis of Alzheimer's Disease: Progress and Problems on the Road to Therapeutics
John Hardy,Dennis J. Selkoe +1 more
TL;DR: It has been more than 10 years since it was first proposed that the neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease (AD) may be caused by deposition of amyloid β-peptide in plaques in brain tissue and the rest of the disease process is proposed to result from an imbalance between Aβ production and Aβ clearance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Free radicals and antioxidants in normal physiological functions and human disease
TL;DR: Attention is focussed on the ROS/RNS-linked pathogenesis of cancer, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, hypertension, ischemia/reperfusion injury, diabetes mellitus, neurodegenerative diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, and ageing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeting cancer cells by ROS-mediated mechanisms: a radical therapeutic approach?
TL;DR: It is argued that modulating the unique redox regulatory mechanisms of cancer cells might be an effective strategy to eliminate these cells.

The effect of vitamin E and beta carotene on the incidence of lung cancer and other cancers in male smokers
O.P. Heinonen,D. Albanes +1 more
TL;DR: No reduction in the incidence of lung cancer among male smokers is found after five to eight years of dietary supplementation with alpha-tocopherol or beta carotene, and this trial raises the possibility that these supplements may actually have harmful as well as beneficial effects.
