04 Nov 1976TL;DR: In this paper, the rotational speed of the motor throughout the reciprocation cycle of the pump, so as to provide preselected average rotational speeds over predetermined subintervals of each successive reciprocation cycles.
Abstract: PATENT APPLICATION OF of MINER N. MUNK, KENNETH C. JUDAH, PIERRE Y. ACHENER and DETLEF R. BOEHME for HIGH PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY SYSTEM ABSTRACT OF DISCLOSURE A liquid chromatography system, including a reservoir for a liquid mobile phase, a liquid chromatography column, reciprocating pumping means for pumping the mobile phase through the column, and motor means for driving the pumping means through successive reciprocation cycles. Means are provided for controlling the rotational speed of the motor throughout the reciprocation cycle of the pump, so as to provide preselected average rotational speeds over predetermined subintervals of each successive reciprocation cycle. Application of the control cycle is synchronized with the pump cycle so that the said speed control is properly applied over each successive reciprocation cycle.

19 Jun 1975TL;DR: In this paper, a pseudorandom phase shift was added to each component for scrambling the phases of the RF excitation, and the excited RF resonance signals in the time domain were detected, time-averaged, Fourier transformed to the frequency domain, and, in the case of phase scrambling, unscrambled by the pseudoregressive phase angle sequence.
Abstract: Broadband RF excitation for a Fourier transform spectrometer is obtained by synthesizing the time domain excitation from the desired frequency spectrum of RF excitation. Means are provided to Fourier transform the desired spectral data from the frequency domain into the time domain to obtain a modulation output for modulating an RF carrier signal to generate the desired sideband of RF excitation. In a preferred embodiment, the desired frequency domain data, as tabled in the computer, has a pseudorandom phase shift added to each component for scrambling the phases of the RF excitation. The excited RF resonance signals in the time domain are detected, time-averaged, Fourier transformed to the frequency domain and, in the case of phase scrambling, unscrambled by the pseudorandom phase angle sequence, and displayed.

28 Feb 1977TL;DR: In this paper, a two-flame photometric detector is used for analyzing a sample material, where a first flame is introduced into a hydrogen-rich first flame, and the combustion products and excess hydrogen from the first flame are passed via a second conduit structure into an oxygen-containing environment.
Abstract: A two-flame burner is used in a flame photometric detector for analyzing a sample material. The sample material is introduced via a first conduit structure into a hydrogen-rich first flame, and the combustion products and excess hydrogen from the first flame are passed via a second conduit structure into an oxygen-containing environment. A second flame is maintained at the exit end of the second conduit structure. The first and second conduit structures are composed of material that does not contribute to the coloration of the second flame during operation of the detector. Particular constituents of the sample material are detected by observing the presence of colors in the second flame indicative of the constituents. For example, the presence of sulfur is indicated by a blue coloration, and the presence of phosphorus is indicated by a green coloration. The presence of nitrogen is indicated by a coloration of the second flame resulting from a chemiluminescent molecular recombination of nitric oxide and oxygen atoms to form nitrogen dioxide molecules. The presence of any hydrocarbon can be indicated by a flame coloration resulting from a chemical reaction indicative of elemental carbon.

06 Mar 1989TL;DR: In this paper, a pair of coupled surface coils are arranged to provide active detuning whereby the shape of the RF field due to the RF current in one coil is modified in a calibrated fashion by the RF currents in the second coil.
Abstract: A pair of coupled surface coils are arranged to provide active detuning whereby the shape of the RF field due to the RF current in one coil is modified in a calibrated fashion by the RF current in the second coil whereby a selected fraction of the RF field of one coil may be selectively added or subtracted from the RF field of the one other coil thereby shaping the RF field.
