15 Feb 1996TL;DR: In this paper, a computer on the train is provided with inputs for grade information, axle speed, brakepipe pressure, and locomotive tractive effort, and signals representing those parameters are generated.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for monitoring brake performance and updating information relating to brake performance while a train is in motion. A computer on the train is provided with inputs for grade information, axle speed, brakepipe pressure, and locomotive tractive effort. During brake applications when the train is in motion, calculations are made by the computer to update parameters which relate to braking performance, and to generate signals representing those parameters.

TL;DR: In this paper, the initial yield stress and plastic flow characteristics of magnesium single crystals have been investigated by means of incremental creep experiments in tension and direct shear, in the temperature range of 78° to 364°K.
Abstract: The initial yield stress and plastic flow characteristics of magnesium single crystals have been investigated by means of incremental creep experiments in tension and direct shear, in the temperature range of 78° to 364°K. It was found that the strain rate, γ, could be related to the applied stress, τ, and the temperature, T, by the expression , where B and C are constants, h is the strain-hardening coefficient, γ is the strain, and ΔH is an activation energy equal to 10.3 kcal per g atom. The strain-hardening coefficient was constant in the temperature range of 78° to 203°K, but decreased at higher temperatures; the decrease is attributable to recovery. The constant coefficient, in the absence of recovery, is consistent with the idea that strain hardening in hexagonal crystals is associated with the elastic interaction of accumulated dislocations.

16 Jan 1976TL;DR: In this article, the grounding conductors of the power system and the real earth ground return path transmit the carrier communication signals between a substation communication terminal and remote communication terminals at the premises of utility company customers.
Abstract: Carrier current signals are impressed to and detected from grounding conductors connected to the power system and to real earth ground. The communication links provided by the grounded neutral conductors of the power system and by the real earth ground return path transmit the carrier communication signals between a substation communication terminal and remote communication terminals at the premises of utility company customers. The communication signals are coupled to the ground conductors by transformer-type couplers in which the grounding conductor constitutes one winding of the transformer.

TL;DR: A computational fluid dynamics model that evaluates mechanical mixing in a full-scale anaerobic digester was developed to investigate the influence of sewage sludge rheology on the steady-state digester performance and it was found that when modeling the fluid with the Hershel-Bulkley law, the high slope of the sewage stress-strain curve at high shear rates causes significant viscous torque on the impeller surface.
