10 Dec 1974TL;DR: In this article, a bidirectional electronic interface (BEI) is used to communicate between a remote sensing transducer and a computer for analysis and processing and transmission control and data information to remote control and monitoring stations.
Abstract: A bidirectional electronic interface couples remote sensing security transducers such as fire and burglar monitoring devices to a computer such that the circuitry of the bidirectional electronic interface functions to both transmit signals from the remote sensing transducer to the computer for analysis and processing and transmit control and data information to remote control and monitoring stations. The computer scans the content of the bidirectional electronic interface for remote transducer information with the bidirectional electronic interface serving as a storage apparatus. The computer is programmed to respond to the information presented by the bidirectional electronic interface to initiate predetermined control and data recording functions for both direct activation of remote apparatus and for transmittal of control signals through the bidirectional electronic interface circuitry to remote apparatus. The flexibility provided by the bidirectional electronic interface circuitry provides for effective and efficient utilization of conventional computer capability in a security system. Circuitry of the type disclosed herein has been described in detail in U.S. Pat. No. 3,805,234 entitled "Digital Data Transmission Systems" issued Apr. 14, 1974 and U.S. Pat. No. 3,910,322 entitled "A Test Set Controlled By A Remotely Positioned Digital Computer", both of which have been assigned to the assignee of the present invention.

Abstract: Heat-capacity measurements have been made on pure palladium and a series of dilute palladium-iron alloys over the temperature range 1.4 to 100\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K. All alloys exhibit a ferromagnetic specific heat anomaly, the entropy of which is proportional to iron concentration. This entropy corresponds to a mean spin of 1.1\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.3 per iron atom. The disagreement between the latter figure and the value obtained from the saturation moment of more concentrated alloys is discussed. For the most concentrated alloy a ${T}^{\frac{3}{2}}$ spin-wave term is observed, the magnitude of which is in approximate agreement with theory. The Debye $\ensuremath{\theta}$ for pure palladium appears to have an anomalous temperature dependence.

02 Dec 1993TL;DR: In this article, a fuel nozzle assembly is provided having the capability of burning either gaseous or liquid fuel, or both simultaneously, along with steam injection, with a nozzle body attached to a nozzle cap by inner, outer and middle sleeves.
Abstract: A fuel nozzle assembly is provided having the capability of burning either gaseous or liquid fuel, or both simultaneously, along with steam injection. The nozzle has a nozzle body that is attached to a nozzle cap by inner, outer and middle sleeves. The sleeves form inner and outer concentric annular conduits between themselves for directing the flow of gaseous fuel and steam from the fuel and steam inlet ports to the outlet ports. In addition, the inner sleeve forms a central chamber in which an oil fuel nozzle is disposed. Radial passages in the nozzle body allow cooling air to flow over the oil nozzle and through the oil outlet port, thereby preventing coking at the nozzle tip. The fuel nozzle assembly is originally built, and the nozzle cap is replaced, by sliding the sleeves forward and aft on the assembly so as to gain access to the next innermost sleeve.

TL;DR: In this article, the thermal expansion of three isotropic metal-matrix composites, reinforced with SiC particles or microcellular foam, is measured between 25 °C and 325 °C.
Abstract: The thermal expansion of three isotropic metal-matrix composites, reinforced with SiC particles or microcellular foam, is measured between 25 °C and 325 °C. All three composites show initial co-efficient of thermal expansion (CTE) values in agreement with the Turner model predictions, and near Schapery’s lower elastic bound for CTE. At higher temperatures, the CTE of foam-reinforced Al decreases, while that of the two particle-reinforced composites increases. These observations are interpreted as resulting from the presence of a very small fraction of microscopic voids within the infiltrated composites. This interpretation is confirmed with finite-element simulations of the influence of voids, cracks, and reinforcement convexity in two-dimensional (2-D) composites featuring an interconnected reinforcement of SiC surrounding isolated Al phase regions, thermally cycled from an elevated processing temperature and deforming in generalized plane strain.

14 Apr 1978TL;DR: In this paper, a mandrel for hydraulically expanding tubes into engagement with a tubesheet is described, the body of the mandrel being coated with an electrically isolating impermeable membrane and having an eddy current coil adjacent the leading end thereof.
Abstract: A mandrel for hydraulically expanding tubes into engagement with a tubesheet, the body of the mandrel being coated with an electrically isolating impermeable membrane and having an eddy current coil adjacent the leading end thereof, the tube into which the mandrel is placed and the body of the mandrel serving as leads for operating the eddy current coil in order to determine when the leading end of the mandrel is adjacent the inner edge of the tubesheet and a mandrel having a portion formed from wire rope so that the mandrel is flexible and can fit into a tube adjacent a hemispherical head.
