17 Feb 1999TL;DR: In this paper, a system for visualizing, controlling and managing information includes a data analysis unit for interpreting and classifying raw data using analytical techniques, and a data flow coordination unit routes data from its source to other components within the system.
Abstract: A system for visualizing, controlling and managing information includes a data analysis unit for interpreting and classifying raw data using analytical techniques. A data flow coordination unit routes data from its source to other components within the system. A data preparation unit handles the graphical preparation of the data and a data rendering unit presents the data in a three-dimensional interactive environment where the user can observe, interact with, and interpret the data. A user can view the information on various levels, from a high overall process level view, to a view illustrating linkage between variables, to view the hard data itself, or to view results of an analysis of the data. The system allows a user to monitor a physical process in real-time and further allows the user to manage and control the information in a manner not previously possible.

17 Nov 1997TL;DR: A display unit for use with a computer and a power supply, including an environmentally-sealed enclosure having a removable cover, and housing a liquid crystal display screen, the removable cover serving as an integral heat sink for the power supply.
Abstract: A display unit for use with a computer and a power supply, includes an environmentally-sealed enclosure having a removable cover, and housing a liquid crystal display screen, the removable cover serving as an integral heat sink for the power supply, the power supply being mounted on the internal surface of the cover. Further, a backlighting device backlights the display screen, and a cooling plenum conductively and convectively cools the backlighting device, the backlighting device being mounted directly on a surface of the plenum.

TL;DR: In this article, a fatigue curve based on strain-fatigue data for use in pressure vessel design is presented. But the focus of this paper is not on the design of a pressure vessel, but on how to evaluate the effects of combined mean and alternating stress.
Abstract: Methods are described for constructing a fatigue curve based on strain- fatigue data for use in pressure vessel design. When this curve is used, the same fatigue strengthreduction factor should be used for low-cycle as for highcycle conditions. When evaluating the effects of combined mean and alternating stress, the fatigue strength-reduction factor should be applied to both the mean and the alternating component, but then account must be taken of the reduction in mean stress which can be produced by yielding. The complete fatigue evaluation of a pressure vessel can be a major task for the designer, but it can be omitted, or at least drastically reduced, if certain requirements can be met regarding design details, inspection, and magnitude of transients. Although the emphasis is on pressure vessel design, the same principles could be applied to any structure made of ductile metal and subjected to limited numbers of load cycles.

01 Jun 1965TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a new approach to the problem of mounting moderate Q thickness mode piezoelectric resonators based on the impedance transforming properties of quarter-wavelength transmission lines.
Abstract: This paper presents a new approach to the problem of mounting moderate Q thickness mode piezoelectric resonators based on the impedance transforming properties of quarter-wavelength transmission lines. The resulting sandwich structure has been demonstrated in the range 2-7 Mc/s, and a computer analysis of the tolerance sensitivities of the center frequency and Q has been conducted. This type of resonator appears particularly promising as a tuner for high frequency integrated circuits. The problems which must yet be solved in order to implement these tuners in thin film form are described.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors focus more strongly on evaluating Gen IV cladding materials, e.g., SiCf/SiCm composites, for Gen III fuel, and show that the cost of electricity will be higher than for a Gen III LWR operating on a once-through fuel cycle, comparing the true, unsubsidized economic bottom line.
