A review on selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/SLM) of aluminium alloy powders: Processing, microstructure, and properties
TL;DR: In this article, the state of the art in selective laser sintering/melting (SLS/SLM) processing of aluminium powders is reviewed from different perspectives, including powder metallurgy (P/M), pulsed electric current (PECS), and laser welding of aluminium alloys.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dislocation network in additive manufactured steel breaks strength–ductility trade-off
Leifeng Liu,Qingqing Ding,Yuan Zhong,Ji Zou,Jing Wu,Yu-Lung Chiu,Jixue Li,Ze Zhang,Qian Yu,Zhijian Shen +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that the pre-existing dislocation network, which maintains its configuration during the entire plastic deformation, is an ideal modulator that is able to slow down but not entirely block the dislocation motion.
Journal ArticleDOI
Critical review of automotive steels spot welding: process, structure and properties
TL;DR: In this article, the fundamental understanding of structure-properties relationship in automotive steels resistance spot welds is discussed. And a brief review of friction stir spot welding, as an alternative to RSW, is also included.
Journal ArticleDOI
Revisiting fundamental welding concepts to improve additive manufacturing: From theory to practice
TL;DR: In this article, a unified equation to compute the energy density is proposed to compare works performed with distinct equipment and experimental conditions, covering the major process parameters: power, travel speed, heat source dimension, hatch distance, deposited layer thickness and material grain size.
Journal ArticleDOI
Using deep neural network with small dataset to predict material defects
TL;DR: This study attempted to predict solidification defects by DNN regression with a small dataset that contains 487 data points and found that a pre-trained and fine-tuned DNN shows better generalization performance over shallow neural network, support vector machine, and DNN trained by conventional methods.

Weldability Testing of Dissimilar Combinations of 5000- and 6000-Series Aluminum Alloys The Sigmajig weldability test was used to quantify the relative cracking susceptibility of dissimilar combinations of sheet alloys
M. M. Mossman,J. C. Lippold +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the Sigmajig weldability test was used to evaluate the cracking susceptibility of different combinations of alloys and their dissimilar combina- tions, and the results showed that 5182-6111 and 5754-5182 combinations exhibited the highest crack- ing resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of the Assembly Method of Sleeve Joints on Their Strength
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the strength of assembly joints of sleeve elements made of different structural, polymeric materials, including polyvinyl chloride pipes, polypropylene pipes, and Vodaro 15010-VO one-component adhesive.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microstructure Characteristics of TIG Welding Joint of 740H Pipe for Ultra-Supercritical Power Plant Boilers
TL;DR: In this paper, the microstructure and mechanical properties of tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding joint of 740H pipe were studied by optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and HV tester.
Journal ArticleDOI
Combining CaO–SiO2–TiO2 and CaO–SiO2–Al2O3 ternary phase systems for design of bimetallic welds:
TL;DR: The bimetallic welds are frequently utilized for pipeline transport system of the nuclear power plants of the United States and the occurrences of welding defects generally depend on the filler electrode as well as the el...
