Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to examine the sustaining effects of colonialism perpetuated in one of Malaysia‟s premier schools, The Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), as discerned through Kam Raslan‟s Confessions of an Old Boy: The Dato‟ Hamid Adventures (2007). By highlighting that culture is a learned behaviour and man-made, this paper argues that a cultural programming process took place within the education system implemented in MCKK which was inherently an ideology transference mechanism appropriated by the British on the Malays. By blending the basic principle of computing process together with Edward Said‟s idea on the latent form of Orientalism, the cultural programming model makes overt certain colonial culture and ideology instilled through MCKK‟s form and function in serving the colonial interest. Hence, through the analysis of novel and historical accounts on the development of MCKK, we show that the British had surreptitiously transferred their culture and ideology as discerned through the character, Dato‟ Hamid

01 Aug 2017TL;DR: New applications of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) as a specialized computer performing control functions with a variety of high levels of complexit are identified.
Abstract: The article is focused on modeling an automated industrial robotic arm operated electro-pneumatically and to simulate the robotic arm operation. It is used the graphic language FBD (Function Block Diagram) to program the robotic arm on Zelio Logic automation. The innovative modeling and simulation procedures are considered specific problems regarding the development of a new type of technical products in the field of robotics. Thus, were identified new applications of a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) as a specialized computer performing control functions with a variety of high levels of complexit.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied jet-gap-jet events in proton-proton collisions at the CERN LHC with an intact proton using a subsample of events with an integrated luminosity of 0.4-1.0%.
Abstract: Events where the two leading jets are separated by a pseudorapidity interval devoid of particle activity, known as jet-gap-jet events, are studied in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} =$ 13 TeV. The signature is expected from hard color-singlet exchange. Each of the highest transverse momentum ($p_\mathrm{T}$) jets must have $p_\mathrm{T}^\text{jet}$$\gt$ 40 GeV and pseudorapidity 1.4 $\lt$$|\eta^\text{jet}|$$\lt$ 4.7, with $\eta^\text{jet1} \eta^\text{jet2}$$\lt$ 0, where $\text{jet1}$ and $\text{jet2}$ are the leading and subleading jets in $p_\mathrm{T}$, respectively. The analysis is based on data collected by the CMS and TOTEM experiments during a low luminosity, high-$\beta^*$ run at the CERN LHC in 2015, with an integrated luminosity of 0.66 pb$^{-1}$. Events with a low number of charged particles with $p_\mathrm{T}$$\gt$ 0.2 GeV in the interval $|\eta|$$\lt$ 1 between the jets are observed in excess of calculations that assume only color-exchange. The fraction of events produced via color-singlet exchange, $f_\text{CSE}$, is measured as a function of $p_\mathrm{T}^\text{jet2}$, the pseudorapidity difference between the two leading jets, and the azimuthal angular separation between the two leading jets. The fraction $f_\text{CSE}$ has values of 0.4-1.0%. The results are compared with previous measurements and with predictions from perturbative quantum chromodynamics. In addition, the first study of jet-gap-jet events detected in association with an intact proton using a subsample of events with an integrated luminosity of 0.40 pb$^{-1}$ is presented. The intact protons are detected with the Roman pot detectors of the TOTEM experiment. The $f_\text{CSE}$ in this sample is 2.91 $\pm$ 0.70 (stat) $^{+1.08}_{-1.01}$ (syst) times larger than that for inclusive dijet production in dijets with similar kinematics.

TL;DR: In this article, the main structure and key arithmetic of the model, based on the physical electric power infrastructure whose cyber and physical system is close interdependent in order to provide theoretic reference to the analyzing and evaluating the cascading effects from increasing cyber attack to physic system.
Abstract: To destroy a country's physical electric power infrastructure by attacking its control system through cyber means, has become an important way to weaken a country's war power. Along with the construction of next generation smart grid, development of the internet of things and appearance of system of systems(henceforth, SOS) warfare based on information systems, the complicated control networks system would confront more and more threat of cyber attack. we design the main structure and key arithmetic of the model, based on the physical electric power infrastructure whose cyber and physical system is close interdependent in order to provide theoretic reference to the analyzing and evaluating the cascading effects from increasing cyber attack to physic system. Preliminary experiments show that these structures and algorithms are reasonable and feasible.

TL;DR: How Malaysian adolescents rationalised their smoking behaviour despite knowing its danger is reported on to provide meaningful insights for clinicians and policy makers to understand adolescents’ reasoning for smoking, which then may result in the development of better strategies for challenging the rationalisations of adolescents.
Abstract: Adolescents are aware of the health risks of cigarette smoking yet still they continue to smoke. This article reports on how Malaysian adolescents rationalised their smoking behaviour despite knowing its danger. In this qualitative study, 26 adolescents (23 smokers and 3 former smokers) were interviewed through 3 focus group interviews and 3 in-depth interviews. The interviews were guided by a semi-structured interview protocol and recorded using audio recorders. This study highlights that the adolescents continued to smoke despite knowing the risks of smoking. They rationalised their smoking by disengaging themselves from the risks through: (1) disregarding the immediate effects of smoking, (2) ignoring the risk information, (3) normalising the mortality risk of smoking, (4) emotionally detaching themselves from relating to the threat, (5) regarding smoking as the lesser evil than other risky behaviour, and (6) discounting the actual risks by citing the exceptional cases. In conclusion, the adolescents might have made a calculated decision after weighing the risks and benefits of smoking but they chose smoking over quitting. This study provides meaningful insights for clinicians and policy makers to understand adolescents’ reasoning for smoking, which then may result in the development of better strategies for challenging the rationalisations of adolescents.
