Comment on the universality class of self-avoiding walks on a two-layer square lattice

Abstract: We have calculated exactly the mean-square radius of gyration and the mean-square distance of a monomer from the origin for n -step self-avoiding walks on a two-layer square lattice up to 24 steps. We estimated two universal amplitude ratios and the results provide additional evidence that self-avoiding walks on a two-layer lattice belongs to the same universality class as the self-avoiding walk on a planar lattice.

Islamic Military Alliance (IMA) – and Pakistan

Abstract: Power politics is a recurring feature of the Middle East keeping it continuously in a state of transformation since the Iranian revolution of 1979. The United States has declared energy security since the oil crises of 1970s. 9/11 and generated a ferocious US response for regime change. This transition has proven to be uncertain and full of risks with catastrophic consequences and resultant rise of nonstate (NSA) actors like ISIS and ISIL. This article unveils the basic contours and prime motives behind formation of the IMA, its aims and objectives, and its efficacy in countering violent extremism with potential implications for Pakistan as a major stake holder. It also suggests a way forward for Pakistan to convert this into opportunity by mitigating challenges. As an academic narrative, all views and comments are the authors’ own.

Teacher motivation to work in universities – the example of the National Defence University

Abstract: The article examines the motivation and motivating university employees, particularly teachers. I emphasize the importance of the work teachers do and their motivation at universities. The main question the article addresses is: how motivated are teachers to do their jobs? I obtained answers to this question using a diagnostic survey done among a representative research sample at the National Defence University (NDU) in Warsaw.
