TL;DR: This paper proposes a model‐based process that strengthens the links between the SoS analysis stage and the architecture stage in the wave life cycle and defines a crowd management SoS to illustrate the process.
Abstract: Systems of Systems (SoS) encompass a group of distributed and independent systems. This class of systems requires recurrent adaptation at runtime owing to the uncertainty and variability of the runtime environment. Thus, during their execution, SoS can deviate from the initial specification, which is often a consequence of successive evolutions. This problem occurs mainly due to (a) weak communication between the SoS analysis stage and architecture stage and (b) the lack of links between the operational planning in the SoS analysis stage and systems that must be involved in the SoS architecture stage. This paper proposes a model‐based process that strengthens the links between the SoS analysis stage and the architecture stage in the wave life cycle. We ensure that the mission and role concepts for the SoS definition are sufficiently abstract to allow adaptation to the variability of the environment. This definition is translated into an abstract architecture that guides the choices of the system architect during the design and evolution stages. The proposed language is an adaptation of the Systems Modeling Language (SysML). Furthermore, we define a crowd management SoS to illustrate the process.

TL;DR: Using the bone wedge technique may allow a more rapid rehabilitation program applicable for the traumatic biceps tendon rupture seen in young, athletic patients with high demands.
Abstract: Different surgical techniques exist for biceps tenodesis. The most secure fixation technique is with interference screws. The purpose of the study was to compare the biomechanical performance of three different interference screw biceps tenodesis fixation methods, which involve different tunnel preparation methods. Using a sheep shoulder model and metal interference screws, a bone wedge technique was compared to serial tunnel dilation and a control group. After a preload, all repairs were cyclically loaded (20–60 N) for 100 cycles followed by destructive testing. Biceps tenodesis using an interference screw—bone wedge technique showed statistically lower cyclic displacement (8.1 ± 6.4 mm) than serial dilatation with an interference screw (21.3 ± 8.4 mm) or interference screw fixation alone (18.3 ± 8.3 mm) (P = 0.02). There were no statistically significant differences in ultimate failure strength for any of the interference screw biceps tenodesis techniques tested. The tunnel preparation method chosen for interference screw fixed biceps tenodesis can have a positive effect on tenodesis performance. Using the bone wedge technique may allow a more rapid rehabilitation program applicable for the traumatic biceps tendon rupture seen in young, athletic patients with high demands.

TL;DR: This study provides the first analysis of the allele frequency distribution of the ALAD gene in a Turkish population and the results are compared with other world populations.
Abstract: delta-Aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) is a cytosolic enzyme in the heme biosynthetic pathway. ALAD is a polymorphic enzyme showing marked ethnic group differences. In this study, ALAD polymorphism is studied in a Turkish population. Genomic DNA extracted from 230 individuals and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) coupled with the restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) technique were used to identify variants. The frequencies of the alleles ALAD1 and ALAD2 in Turkey were 0.887 and 0.113, respectively. This study provides the first analysis of the allele frequency distribution of the ALAD gene in a Turkish population. The results are compared with other world populations.

TL;DR: In this article, a goethite impregnated sample (FAG) was synthesized and optimized using the column precipitation procedure, then thoroughly, structurally and morphologically characterized using liquid nitrogen porosimetry (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Mossbauer Spectroscopy (MS) techniques.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors propose a triple edged sword between civil aid organisations and the military, which enables co-operation: the civil aid organizations get the protection they need from the US military, the military gets the information it needs through civil aid, and the local population is supported in rebuilding society by repressing terrorism.
Abstract: Military units on missions abroad face, among other challenges, terrorism. Terrorists are hard to recognize since they operate non-uniformed. Detection of terrorists in the area of operation can best be done by winning the trust of the local population, who can provide information. However, since the military rotates its units regularly, it is hard to build up a trusting relationship with the local population. Other players in the field of international operations are civil aid organisations. They remain in the area for a lengthy period of time, and often build up trusting relationships with the local population. Trust between civil aid organisations and the military is a triple edged sword, as it enables co-operation: the civil aid organisations get the protection they need from the military, the military gets the information it needs through civil aid organisations and the local population is supported in rebuilding society by repressing terrorism.
