TL;DR: In this article, two passive ranging approaches using a single camera, based on intensity and contrast measurements, were proposed to estimate the range to a moving object in a real infrared surveillance sequence.
Abstract: Proposed are two passive ranging approaches using a single camera, based on intensity and contrast measurements. According to the Beer-Lambert law and known atmosphere extinction coefficient and initial range, the range to a moving object is estimated. Using these approaches in a real infrared surveillance sequence, better results are obtained than with methods which use image size measurements. The relative error of 3.2% for contrast and 2.3% for intensity features are obtained. Results indicate that range estimation is possible to a fidelity required for object tracking.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify potential risk factors affecting the implementation and synchronisation of surveying and construction works during building and operation of roads and present a reasonably precise index of factors which one may deal with during the implementation of facilities of this type.
Abstract: Abstract This article aims to identify potential risk factors affecting the implementation and synchronisation of surveying and construction works during building and operation of roads. The task was executed on the basis of literature studies and experience. The article is an introduction to the research that has been conducted by the authors on the reasonably precise index of factors which one may deal with during the implementation of facilities of this type. The raised issue is crucial for financial and time reasons, but what is important in the roads construction - also for social ones, as prolonged traffic disruption adversely affects the environment.

TL;DR: The Russian Abstract explains how the concept of “consciousness”, or “consistency” in the face of uncertainty, can be a source of concern for many people.
Abstract: The entire diversity of assessments made by various subjects, going through certain procedures and stages in the assessment process, turns into resultant (final) assessments. As a rule, the organizational assessment process of the final information can serve as a basis of certain important practical conclusions for the implementation of relevant events and actions, development of programs to increase effectiveness.

TL;DR: The authors used Q-Sorting to uncover learning identities in an undergraduate core political science course and identified five distinct learning styles: adept learners, traditionalists, obligation learners, conscientious learners, and objective learners.
Abstract: The present article uses Q-Method to uncover, what we refer to as, learning identities in an undergraduate core political science course. The term “learning identities” is employed to highlight the self-referential quality of the learning perspectives revealed in the Q-Sorting exercise. Drawing on a set of 41 objectivist statements derived from the broad field of learning style inventories, a taxonomy of five distinct learning identities is described and discussed below. These include: Adept Learners, Traditionalists, Obliged Pupils, Apathetic Pupils, and Objective Learners. After describing these ideal-typical learner self-conceptions, the authors discuss how this knowledge can be a valuable tool for college and university political science faculty, informing such efforts as curriculum development and instructional approaches. Although learning style inventories have long been a part of the pedagogical literature, few attempts have been made to unify the varying measures of personality type, information-...
