TL;DR: In this article, the authors used microscopic techniques for the characterisation of Zn-Mn coatings electrodeposited from choline chloride-urea deep eutectic solvent.
Abstract: Electrochemical and microscopic techniques were used for the characterisation of Zn–Mn coatings electrodeposited from choline chloride–urea deep eutectic solvent. Cyclic voltammograms show that there was no discernible Mn reduction peak when only Mn2+ was present in DES solution. The distinct Mn peak developed only upon addition of Zn2+ to the solution, probably due to previous Zn nucleation on the steel substrate. It was found that 22–27 wt-% Mn deposited at current densities of 3–8 mA cm−2, amounts significantly higher than those obtained from aqueous electrolytes. Since higher deposition current densities resulted in the formation of a porous surface consisting of clusters of nodular crystallites, the optimal deposition c.d was determined to be 3 mA cm−2.

TL;DR: The conclusion of this study was that simvastatin potently increased endothelial TM expression in the zone of stasis and preserved the zone.
Abstract: Salvaging the zone of stasis is important for burn researchers because this can prevent an increase in the depth and width of the injured area. Statin analogues have many pleiotropic effects on the vessel walls and the coagulation and fibrinolytic systems. In this study, we investigated the effects of simvastatin, a statin analogue, administered to rats burned with a metal comb. No treatment was given to the control group (n = 10). Simvastatin was given at a dose of 5 mg/kg/d by intraperitoneal injection in treatment group (n = 10) for 7 days. Phosphate-buffered saline was given 1 mg/kg/d by intraperitoneal injection in sham group (n = 10). The groups were randomly divided into two subgroups (n = 5) for evaluation at 24 hours and 7 days. It was observed that there were necrotic areas and viable interspaces in both the experimental and control groups at 24 hours. The interspaces progressed to necrotic areas in the control and sham groups at 7 days. However, viable interspaces were separated from necrotic areas clearly in the treatment group at 7 days. In the samples taken from interspaces at 24 hours, positive staining for thrombomodulin (TM) for all groups was noted. In the samples taken from the control and phosphate-buffered saline groups at 7 days, there was negative staining for TM. However, in the samples taken from interspaces of the treatment group, positive staining for TM was observed. The conclusion of this study was that simvastatin potently increased endothelial TM expression in the zone of stasis and preserved the zone.

TL;DR: In this paper, a printed coplanar two-antenna element for WLAN operation in the 24 and 5 GHz bands for dual-module applications in a MIMO system is proposed.
Abstract: A printed coplanar two-antenna element suited for WLAN operation in the 24- and 5-GHz bands for dual-module applications in a MIMO system is proposed The two-antenna element is comprised of one planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) and one monopole antenna, both printed and integrated in a coplanar configuration on a narrow dielectric substrate with the dimensions 50 mm × 11 mm The two antennas are excited using two separate feeds with a common ground plane By utilizing two proposed elements spaced 10-mm apart in the lateral direction with an optimized arrangement, the four-antenna MIMO system obtained can achieve optimal isolation between any two of the four antennas In comparison with the conventional dual-band antenna with a single feed, the proposed two-antenna element allows the 24- and 5-GHz signals to be simultaneously received or transmitted with no external switch circuit between the antenna and modules required © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc Microwave Opt Technol Lett 50: 1635–1638, 2008; Published online in Wiley InterScience (wwwintersciencewileycom) DOI 101002/mop23540

TL;DR: In this article, the optical properties of single-walled boron nitride nanotubes have been studied theoretically and the dielectric functions calculated from the gradient approximation and the random-phase approximation are consistent with each other.
Abstract: Optical properties of single-walled boron nitride nanotubes have been studied theoretically. The dielectric functions calculated from the gradient approximation and the random-phase approximation are consistent with each other. The imaginary and the real parts of the dielectric function, respectively, exihibit the special peaks and dips. The strong e-h absorption peaks at ω < 4 γ 0 comes from the π band and the others from the π + a bands (γ 0 is the nearest-neighbor interaction of 2p z orbitals). Such single-particle excitations also induce the peak structures in the reflectance spectrum. On the other hand, the loss function shows the prominent π- and π + σ-plasmon peaks. The π and π + a plasmons (collective excitations) reveal themselves in the reflectance spectrum as strong and abrupt edges. The optical properties are affected by the polarization direction and the nanotube radius, but not the chiral angle. The calculated results could be experimentally checked with optical spectroscopies or EELS.
