LSST: from Science Drivers to Reference Design and Anticipated Data Products

Željko Ivezić, +312 more
- 15 May 2008 -
TL;DR: The LSST design is driven by four main science themes: probing dark energy and dark matter, taking an inventory of the solar system, exploring the transient optical sky, and mapping the Milky Way.

The clustering of galaxies in the completed SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey: cosmological analysis of the DR12 galaxy sample

Shadab Alam, +90 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present cosmological results from the final galaxy clustering data set of the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey, part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III.
Journal ArticleDOI

The clustering of galaxies in the sdss-iii baryon oscillation spectroscopic survey: Baryon acoustic oscillations in the data release 9 spectroscopic galaxy sample

Lauren Anderson, +76 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a measurement of the cosmic distance scale from detections of the baryon acoustic oscillations in the clustering of galaxies from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS), which is part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III (SDSS-III).
Journal ArticleDOI

$f(R,T)$ gravity

TL;DR: In this article, the authors considered a modified theory of gravity, where the gravitational Lagrangian is given by an arbitrary function of the Ricci scalar and of the trace of the stress-energy tensor.

The mass function of an X-ray flux-limited sample of galaxy clusters

TL;DR: In this article, a new X-ray-selected and Xray flux-limited galaxy cluster sample is presented, based on the ROSAT All-Sky Survey, the 63 brightest clusters with galactic latitude |bII|? 20? and flux fX(0.1-2.4keV)? 2? 10-11ergss-1cm-2 have been determined utilizing intracluster gas density profiles, derived mainly from ROSAT PSPC pointed observations, and gas temperatures, as published mainly from ASCA observations.

Small-scale fluctuations of relic radiation*

TL;DR: In this paper, it is shown that an adiabatic connection exists between the density perturbations at the moment of recombination of the initial plasma and fluctuations of the observed temperature of radiation δT/T=δϱm/3ϱ m.

A γ-ray burst at a redshift of z ≈ 8.2

Nial R. Tanvir, +65 more
- 29 Oct 2009 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported that GRB 090423 lies at a redshift of z approximate to 8.2, implying that massive stars were being produced and dying as GRBs similar to 630 Myr after the Big Bang.
Journal ArticleDOI

Formation of Galaxy Clusters

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the current understanding of cluster formation: from the general picture of collapse from initial density fluctuations in an expanding Universe to detailed simulations of cluster forming including the effects of galaxy formation, and discuss the formation of clusters in nonstandard cosmological models, such as non-Gaussian models for the initial density field and models with modified gravity.
