Association of SV40 with human tumors

TL;DR: Before accepting the possibility that SV40 was present in human tumors, a multi-laboratory study needed to be conducted, and evidence in favor and against a possible association of SV40 with human cancer was reviewed at an international concensus meeting at the University of Chicago on 20, 21 April 2001.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new role for microRNAs, as ligands of Toll-like receptors.

TL;DR: It is discovered that miRNAs released by cancer cells within microvesicles can reach and bind to Toll-like receptors in surrounding immune cells, and activate them in a paracrine loop, which provides the rationale for the development of new drugs that might be used in the treatment of cancer as well as other inflammation-related diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sequence of the FRA3B common fragile region: Implications for the mechanism of FHIT deletion

TL;DR: Sequence analysis of 276 kb of the FRA3B/FHIT locus and 22 associated cancer cell deletion endpoints shows that this locus is a frequent target of homologous recombination between long interspersed nuclear element sequences resulting in FHIT gene internal deletions, probably as a result of carcinogen-induced damage at F RA3B fragile sites.
