TLDR
In this paper, design-based research has demonstrated its potential as a methodology suitable to both research and design of technology-enhanced learning environments (TELEs) and discuss future challenges of using this methodology.Abstract:
During the past decade, design-based research has demonstrated its potential as a methodology suitable to both research and design of technology-enhanced learning environments (TELEs). In this paper, we define and identify characteristics of design-based research, describe the importance of design-based research for the development of TELEs, propose principles for implementing design-based research with TELEs, and discuss future challenges of using this methodology. From Needs Analysis to Large-Scale Implementation: Using Collaborative Design to Support ICT Integration
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe three iterations of an instructional course for pre-service mathematics teachers in Ghana aimed at addressing this type of question, which was based on Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge as a conceptual framework for the course content and Learning Technology by Design as the course method.
mLearning in the organizational innovation process
TL;DR: In this article, the authors explore the process by which an organization adopted and engaged in an mLearning initiative, and find that the initial adoption of mLearning in the organization studied did not reach sustainable implementation because no clear champion for mLearning existed and an untested mLearning product was heavily relied upon even though it was being developed in parallel to the mLearning implementation efforts.

Gaeilge Gaming: Assessing how games can help children to learn Irish
Gene Dalton,Ann Devitt +1 more
TL;DR: Overall, the children responded very positively, and identified significant motivational factors associated with the game, such as rewards, positive team interactions, challenge and active learning, which demonstrates that this use of gaming technology has the potential to support children's language learning through creating a language community where users are motivated to use Irish in a meaningful way.
The views and use of theory by practicing instructional designers
TL;DR: The overarching implication of this study is that the relevance of theoretical work to practitioners is directly impacted by the practicality of the theory in the hands of typical practitioners and that more measures can be readily implemented by theorists and by those who train and mentor practitioners to bring this about.

“Context matters”: The challenges and opportunities of designing tertiary public and environmental health education in South Auckland
TL;DR: In this article, a study protocol is outlined for co-design of future public and environmental health education for the South Auckland campus of AUT University. And the study will explore the diverse and complex context in which public/environmental health will be provided at AUT South.

The New Meaning of Educational Change
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a brief history of educational change at the local and national level, and discuss the causes and problems of implementation and continuation of change at both the local level and the national level.

Design Experiments: Theoretical and Methodological Challenges in Creating Complex Interventions in Classroom Settings
TL;DR: The lion's share of my current research program is devoted to the study of learning in the blooming, buzzing confusion of inner-city classrooms, and central to the enterprise is that the classroom must function smoothly as a learning environment before the authors can study anything other than the myriad possible ways that things can go wrong.

Participatory Action Research
TL;DR: Whyte as discussed by the authors discusses the role of the social scientist in participatory action research in agricultural research and development in the context of agricultural data collection and data sharing in the field of agricultural research.

Design Experiments in Educational Research
TL;DR: Design experiments have both a pragmatic bent and a theoretical orientation as mentioned in this paper, developing domain-specific theories by systematically studying those forms of learning and the means of supporting them, and the authors clarify what is involved in preparing for and carrying out a design experiment, and conduct a retrospective analysis of the extensive, longitudinal data sets generated during an experiment.
