Abstract
During the past decade, design-based research has demonstrated its potential as a methodology suitable to both research and design of technology-enhanced learning environments (TELEs). In this paper, we define and identify characteristics of design-based research, describe the importance of design-based research for the development of TELEs, propose principles for implementing design-based research with TELEs, and discuss future challenges of using this methodology. Participatory Approaches to Curriculum Design From a Design Research Perspective

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors argue that these truly participatory approaches are also particularly suitable within a design research framework for science education research and innovation, being not only compatible but desirable for both the quality and validity of research results and products.

The instructional theory framework appears lost. Isn’t it time we find it again?

TL;DR: The purpose of this paper is to help researchers and learning-experience designers overcome diffusion barriers by embracing the instructional theory framework as the foundation for their designs and using six principles for conducting research aligned with the framework.

Gestural Articulations of Embodied Spatiality: What Gestures Reveal about Students' Sense-Making of Charged Particle Dynamics in a 3D Game World

TL;DR: The work described in this paper is part of a design-based research involving the use of a game-based learning curriculum to foster students' understanding of physics concepts and principles governing the motion of charged particles in electric and magnetic fields.

Advancing understanding using Nonaka’s model of knowledge creation and problem-based learning

TL;DR: A study investigating if a course designed based on this authentic framework can help to stimulate knowledge creation based on deepening understanding and suggest that the participants demonstrated advancing understanding amidst knowledge creating conditions and processes consistent with Nonaka’s model.

Design-based research in designing the model for educating simulation facilitators

TL;DR: The concept of design-based research, its appropriateness in creating education-based models, and the process of developing such a model, the NESTLED model, were introduced.

The New Meaning of Educational Change

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a brief history of educational change at the local and national level, and discuss the causes and problems of implementation and continuation of change at both the local level and the national level.

Design Experiments: Theoretical and Methodological Challenges in Creating Complex Interventions in Classroom Settings

TL;DR: The lion's share of my current research program is devoted to the study of learning in the blooming, buzzing confusion of inner-city classrooms, and central to the enterprise is that the classroom must function smoothly as a learning environment before the authors can study anything other than the myriad possible ways that things can go wrong.

Participatory Action Research

TL;DR: Whyte as discussed by the authors discusses the role of the social scientist in participatory action research in agricultural research and development in the context of agricultural data collection and data sharing in the field of agricultural research.

Design Experiments in Educational Research

TL;DR: Design experiments have both a pragmatic bent and a theoretical orientation as mentioned in this paper, developing domain-specific theories by systematically studying those forms of learning and the means of supporting them, and the authors clarify what is involved in preparing for and carrying out a design experiment, and conduct a retrospective analysis of the extensive, longitudinal data sets generated during an experiment.
