Abstract
During the past decade, design-based research has demonstrated its potential as a methodology suitable to both research and design of technology-enhanced learning environments (TELEs). In this paper, we define and identify characteristics of design-based research, describe the importance of design-based research for the development of TELEs, propose principles for implementing design-based research with TELEs, and discuss future challenges of using this methodology. Initiating interest in statistical problems: the role of picture story books

TL;DR: This paper explored children's interest in picture story books that were used to contextualize and initiate statistical problems and statistical problem solving, and found that children were interested in picture-book books for data context and task context of a statistical problem.

Teaching Practice and Learning Design: a Reflective Model for Professional Growth

TL;DR: In this paper, a learning design approach based on the epistemology of practice and the implementation of LEDITA tool (LEarning Design for ITAlian language), a web application for creating, editing, sharing and reuse of designs is presented.

Design Languages and Learning Design

TL;DR: This chapter provides a definition for the term ‘design language’ and provides examples of how it is used in other professional domains and summarises the research on design languages and considers how this relates to the notion of a learning design language.

Designing Immersive Mobile Mixed Reality for Paramedic Education

TL;DR: This paper outlines and critiques the first two stages of a mobile mixed reality design-based research study exploring the design and evaluation of mobile virtual reality for paramedic education, and triangulates subjective student immersive environment feedback with objective biometric data to gain clearer insights into the impact of these immersive environments on student learning.

Design Experiments: Theoretical and Methodological Challenges in Creating Complex Interventions in Classroom Settings

TL;DR: The lion's share of my current research program is devoted to the study of learning in the blooming, buzzing confusion of inner-city classrooms, and central to the enterprise is that the classroom must function smoothly as a learning environment before the authors can study anything other than the myriad possible ways that things can go wrong.

Participatory Action Research

TL;DR: Whyte as discussed by the authors discusses the role of the social scientist in participatory action research in agricultural research and development in the context of agricultural data collection and data sharing in the field of agricultural research.

Design Experiments in Educational Research

TL;DR: Design experiments have both a pragmatic bent and a theoretical orientation as mentioned in this paper, developing domain-specific theories by systematically studying those forms of learning and the means of supporting them, and the authors clarify what is involved in preparing for and carrying out a design experiment, and conduct a retrospective analysis of the extensive, longitudinal data sets generated during an experiment.
