Abstract
During the past decade, design-based research has demonstrated its potential as a methodology suitable to both research and design of technology-enhanced learning environments (TELEs). In this paper, we define and identify characteristics of design-based research, describe the importance of design-based research for the development of TELEs, propose principles for implementing design-based research with TELEs, and discuss future challenges of using this methodology. A framework for capacity development: closing the gap between theory and practice

Davina Boyd
TL;DR: In this paper, a design-based research methodology was used to carry out research into the practice of delivering two capacity development interventions: 1) the Public Sector Linkages Program (PSLP) Project; and, 2) the Sustainable Sanitation and Wetlands Technology (SSWT) Project.
Journal ArticleDOI

Design Principles for Thriving in Our Digital World A High School Computer Science Course

TL;DR: The design principles that are described have guided the design of the course and may be helpful to instructional designers, learning technologists, and others who are engaged in the design and development of in situ interventions to improve the teaching and learning of computer science.

Exploring the potential to motivate high school environmental science students with environmental justice: a mixed methods approach

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss science education reform, scientific literacy, environmental justice, and self-efficacy, and theoretical framework for the development of the next generation science standards.

Identity Tableaux: Multimodal Contextual Constructions of Adolescent Identity

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an unexpected finding from a long-term study investigating the use of mobile media, visual art, and civic engagement to reconnect at-risk youth with their education, finding that participants defined their social relationships through representations of affective experiences using context-specific multimodal media literacies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Design-based research in doctoral studies: adding a new dimension to doctoral research

TL;DR: The findings of this study demonstrate that the design-based research approach could bring researchers and practitioners together regarding a common purpose to design context-based solutions to educational problems.

The New Meaning of Educational Change

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a brief history of educational change at the local and national level, and discuss the causes and problems of implementation and continuation of change at both the local level and the national level.

Design Experiments: Theoretical and Methodological Challenges in Creating Complex Interventions in Classroom Settings

TL;DR: The lion's share of my current research program is devoted to the study of learning in the blooming, buzzing confusion of inner-city classrooms, and central to the enterprise is that the classroom must function smoothly as a learning environment before the authors can study anything other than the myriad possible ways that things can go wrong.

Participatory Action Research

TL;DR: Whyte as discussed by the authors discusses the role of the social scientist in participatory action research in agricultural research and development in the context of agricultural data collection and data sharing in the field of agricultural research.
Journal ArticleDOI

Design Experiments in Educational Research

TL;DR: Design experiments have both a pragmatic bent and a theoretical orientation as mentioned in this paper, developing domain-specific theories by systematically studying those forms of learning and the means of supporting them, and the authors clarify what is involved in preparing for and carrying out a design experiment, and conduct a retrospective analysis of the extensive, longitudinal data sets generated during an experiment.
