TLDR
In this paper, a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) is presented.
Abstract
Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. Cooperation of sperm in two dimensions: synchronization, attraction, and aggregation through hydrodynamic interactions.

TL;DR: This work analyzes the sperm behavior by investigating the relationship between the beating-phase difference and the relative sperm position, as well as the energy consumption, and finds two effects of hydrodynamic interaction, synchronization and attraction.

Acoustic attenuation in glasses and its relation with the boson peak

TL;DR: A theory for the vibrational dynamics in disordered solids based on the random spatial variation of the shear modulus is applied to determine the wave vector dependence of the Brillouin peak position and width, and a quantitative relation between the boson peak and Gamma(k), two quantities that were not considered related before.

Isabelle/Isar --- a versatile environment for human-readable formal proof documents

TL;DR: Isar as discussed by the authors is a formal proof language that is intended to support adequate composition of proof documents that are suitable for human consumption, such primary proofs written in Isar may be both checked by the machine and read by human-beings; final presentation merely involves trivial pretty printing of the sources.

Snakes and ladders: Localized states in the Swift–Hohenberg equation

TL;DR: In this article, the Swift-Hohenberg equation with cubic and quintic nonlinearities exhibits multiple stable and unstable spatially localized states of arbitrary length in the vicinity of the Maxwell point between spatially homogeneous and periodic states.

Data groups: specifying the modification of extended state

TL;DR: The paper shows that there is a problem to be solved in the specification of methods whose overrides may modify additional state introduced in subclasses and introduces data groups, which enable modular checking and rather naturally capture a programmer's design decisions.

A review of the features and analyses of the solid electrolyte interphase in Li-ion batteries

TL;DR: The solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is a protecting layer formed on the negative electrode of Li-ion batteries as a result of electrolyte decomposition, mainly during the first cycle as discussed by the authors.
