In this paper, a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) is presented.
Abstract
Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. Three dimensional observations and modelling of intergranular stress corrosion cracking in austenitic stainless steel

TL;DR: In this article, three dimensional X-ray tomographic images of intergranular stress corrosion crack nucleation and growth in sensitised austenitic stainless steel provide evidence for the development of crack bridging ligaments, caused by the resistance of non-sensitised special grain boundaries.

Inborn errors of complex II--unusual human mitochondrial diseases.

TL;DR: A differential impairment of electron flow through the respiratory chain, handling of oxygen, and/or metabolic blockade possibly associated with defects in the different subunits that can be advocated to account for tissue-specific involvement is discussed.

Polarized QED splittings of massive fermions and dipole subtraction for non-collinear-safe observables

TL;DR: In this article, the dipole subtraction formalism for photonic corrections is extended to various photon-fermion splittings where the resulting collinear singularities lead to corrections that are enhanced by logarithms of small fermion masses.

Linear correlation between surface stress and surface charge in anion adsorption on Au(111)

TL;DR: In this article, a linear correlation between surface stress and interfacial charge was observed and it was shown that this representation is to be preferred to the usual voltstressogram, since the structure of the latter is dominated by the differential capacity.

Measurement of the double-beta decay half-life of Nd-150 and search for neutrinoless decay modes with the NEMO-3 detector

TL;DR: In this paper, the half-life for double-beta decay of {sup 150}Nd has been measured by the NEMO-3 experiment at the Modane Underground Laboratory.

A review of the features and analyses of the solid electrolyte interphase in Li-ion batteries

TL;DR: The solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) is a protecting layer formed on the negative electrode of Li-ion batteries as a result of electrolyte decomposition, mainly during the first cycle as discussed by the authors.
