TL;DR: In conclusion, neutralization of IL-18 during lethal endotoxemia protects mice against lethal effects of LPS, partly mediated through inhibition of IFN-γ production, but mechanisms involving decreased neutrophil-mediated tissue damage due to the reduction of either chemokines or TNF may also be involved.

TL;DR: Well tolerated, XOMA 052 resulted in a rapid onset and sustained reduction in intraocular inflammation in patients with resistant uveitis and retinal vasculitis, and the effect was observed despite discontinuation of immunosuppressive agents and without the need to increase corticosteroid dosages.

Interleukin-18, more than a Th1 cytokine
TL;DR: A role for IL-18 has been implicated in several autoimmune diseases, myocardial function, emphysema, metabolic syndromes, psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, macrophage activation syndrome, sepsis and acute kidney injury, although paradoxically, in some models of disease, IL- 18 is protective.
