TL;DR: This paper considers how AT&T's WISE software uses CAD, computational geometry, and optimization to quickly plan where to place base-station transceivers in a building.
Abstract: Designing a low-power system for wireless communication within a building might seem simple. Not so-walls can affect signal strength in ways that are hard to calculate. The paper considers how AT&T's WISE software uses CAD, computational geometry, and optimization to quickly plan where to place base-station transceivers. >

TL;DR: The transport properties of high-quality quantum wires fabricated in GaAs-AlGaAs by using cleaved edge overgrowth are measured and several aspects of the data can be explained qualitatively using Luttinger liquid theory although there remain major inconsistencies with such an interpretation.
Abstract: We have measured the transport properties of high-quality quantum wires fabricated in GaAs-AlGaAs by using cleaved edge overgrowth. The low temperature conductance is quantized as the electron density in the wire is varied. While the values of the conductance plateaus are reproducible, they deviate from multiples of the universal value of ${2e}^{2}/h$ by as much as 25%. As the temperature or dc bias increases the conductance steps approach the universal value. Several aspects of the data can be explained qualitatively using Luttinger liquid theory although there remain major inconsistencies with such an interpretation.

TL;DR: In this paper, a gateway for mobile access includes a foreign agent that receives user profile data and session state data from a home authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) system of a mobile node, and a dynamic packet filter that performs multi-layer filtering based on the user profiles.
Abstract: A gateway for mobile access includes a foreign agent that receives user profile data and session state data from a home authentication, authorization and accounting (AAA) system of a mobile node, and a dynamic packet filter that performs multi-layer filtering based on the user profile data. The foreign agent transfers a session from a first network to a second network without session interruption, using the session state data, when the mobile node moves from the first network to the second network. The packet filter permits Internet access by the mobile node without passing Internet data requested by the mobile node through the first network.

TL;DR: In this paper, a packet-based multi-access mobile communications system, which includes a plurality of mobile user stations and an increasing number of network nodes, is presented, where location management techniques include tracking and/or locating mobile stations within the system.
Abstract: Various methodologies and related apparatus associated with mobility management issues within a packet-based multiaccess mobile communications system, which includes a plurality of mobile user stations and a plurality of network nodes, are provided. Location management techniques include tracking and/or locating mobile stations within the system. The invention makes use of home and visiting location registers in which information such as mobile station addresses and/or host names associated with mobile stations are stored. Mobile access methodologies include a complete mobile access method and a direct mobile access method. The former allows a mobile station to preferably include a unique address in the packets being transmitted, while the latter allows the station to merely use the host name of the destination station. The invention also includes various in-call mobility management techniques, including handoffs, which make use of the concept of an anchor.
