17 Feb 2005TL;DR: In this article, a method for creating, modifying, and terminating connections between Internet end systems, particularly for Internet telephony communication, was proposed, which relies on several request messages sent between a client and a server and the response messages sent back in response.
Abstract: A method for creating, modifying, and terminating connections between Internet end systems, particularly, although not exclusively, for Internet telephony communication. The method relies on several request messages sent between a client and a server and the response messages sent back in response. Each request and response message may contain one or more header fields which modify or more uniquely link the messages with a given connection. On this basis, advanced telephony services, such as call forwarding, call transferring, and multiparty conferencing are provided.

14 Apr 2005TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss the use of network services by a client of the private services network through the public network according to network service access policies associated with the network services.
Abstract: Public and private network service management systems and methods are disclosed. Rules for accessing a private services network in which network services are available are enforced so as to restrict access to the services network through a public network in accordance with policies of the services network. Use of network services by a client of the private services network through the public network is controlled according to network service access policies associated with the network services. Network services provided by clients of the services network which access the services network through a public network may also be offered to other clients of the services network through the services network and the public network.

TL;DR: In this article, the planarization of 1-4 μm thick liquid epoxy films over 25-200 μm wide isolated trenches on a silicon substrate during spin coating is determined by photochemically hardening the film and measuring the film profiles over the trenches with a profilometer.
Abstract: The planarization, that is leveling, of 1–4 μm thick liquid epoxy films over 25–200 μm wide isolated trenches on a silicon substrate during spin coating is determined by photochemically hardening the film and measuring the film profiles over the trenches with a profilometer. The profiles are quantitatively described by a simple lubrication theory that takes advantage of the thinness of the film compared to the feature width, the narrowness of the feature width compared with the distance of the feature from the substrate center, and the rapidity of change in the film profile compared to the overall rate of centrifugally driven film thinning. For a fixed ratio of film thickness to trench depth hf/d, the experimental data fall on a single curve when planarization is plotted against a dimensionless parameter Ω2≡ρω2w3r0/γhf, where ρ is the density of the liquid film, ω is the substrate angular velocity, w is the trench width, r0 is the radial position of the trench, and γ is the film surface tension. For a fix...

21 Dec 2004TL;DR: In this article, a DIMSUMnet architecture is implemented to make some fundamental choices and to centralize the collection of information, such as spectral occupancy, thermal and adjacent frequency interference.
Abstract: A method and system for coordinated dynamic access to radio spectrum for wireless networking includes defining a coordinated access band (CAB) from which radio access network (RAN) managers may request spectrum allocations in the form of time bound spectrum leases for their respective requesting base stations. In one embodiment of the present invention, a DIMSUMnet architecture is implemented to make some fundamental choices and to centralize the collection of information, such as spectral occupancy, thermal and adjacent frequency interference. Such collected information is subsequently used by a spectrum broker in making spectrum allocation decisions. The DIMSUMnet architecture of the present invention also introduces a RAN manager element to centralize the task of acquiring time bound spectrum leases and for configuring the base stations.

TL;DR: Grazing-incidence Fourier transform infrared and AFM data of Au, Al, and Ti vapor-deposited onto self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of conjugated mono- and dithiols are presented.
Abstract: We present grazing-incidence Fourier transform infrared and AFM data of Au, Al, and Ti vapor-deposited onto self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of conjugated mono- and dithiols. SAMs of 4,4'''-dimercapto-p-quaterphenyl, 4,4"-dimercapto-p-terphenyl, and 4,4'-dimercapto-p-biphenyl have reactive thiols at the SAM/vacuum interface that interact with vapor-deposited Au or Al atoms, preventing metal penetration. Conjugated monothiols lack such metal blocking groups, and metals (Au, Al) can penetrate into their SAMs. Vapor deposition of Ti onto conjugated mono- and dithiol SAMs and onto hexadecanethiol SAMs destroys the monolayers.
