16 May 2008TL;DR: The study includes a description of the various techniques that are being used to collect auscultation sounds, a physical description of known pathologic sounds for which automatic detection tools were developed, and a search for new markers to increase the efficiency of decision aid algorithms and tools.
Abstract: Objective: This paper describes state of the art, scientific publications and ongoing research related to the methods of analysis of respiratory sounds.
Methods and material: Review of the current medical and technological literature using Pubmed and personal experience.
Results: The study includes a description of the various techniques that are being used to collect auscultation sounds, a physical description of known pathologic sounds for which automatic detection tools were developed. Modern tools are based on artificial intelligence and on technics such as artificial neural networks, fuzzy systems, and genetic algorithms…
Conclusion: The next step will consist in finding new markers so as to increase the efficiency of decision aid algorithms and tools.

TL;DR: The collective excitation spectrum of interacting electrons in one dimension has been measured by controlling the energy and momentum of electrons tunneling between two closely spaced, parallel quantum wires in a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure while measuring the resulting conductance.
Abstract: The collective excitation spectrum of interacting electrons in one dimension has been measured by controlling the energy and momentum of electrons tunneling between two closely spaced, parallel quantum wires in a GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructure while measuring the resulting conductance. The excitation spectrum deviates from the noninteracting spectrum, attesting to the importance of Coulomb interactions. An observed 30% enhancement of the excitation velocity relative to noninteracting electrons with the same density, a parameter determined experimentally, is consistent with theories on interacting electrons in one dimension. In short wires, 6 and 2 micrometers long, finite size effects, resulting from the breaking of translational invariance, are observed.

01 Sep 1998TL;DR: In this paper, a dependency mask can be used to query a cache of active sessions being processed by the firewall, such that a rule can be selected based on the number of sessions that satisfy the query.
Abstract: Computer network firewalls which include one or more features for increased processing efficiency are provided. A firewall in accordance with the invention can support multiple security policies, multiple users or both, by applying any one of several distinct sets of access rules. The firewall can also be configured to utilize "stateful" packet filtering which involves caching rule processing results for one or more packets, and then utilizing the cached results to bypass rule processing for subsequent similar packets. To facilitate passage to a user, by a firewall, of a separate later transmission which is properly in response to an original transmission, a dependency mask can be set based on session data items such as source host address, destination host address, and type of service. The mask can be used to query a cache of active sessions being processed by the firewall, such that a rule can be selected based on the number of sessions that satisfy the query. Dynamic rules may be used in addition to pre-loaded access rules in order to simplify rule processing. To unburden the firewall of application proxies, the firewall can be enabled to redirect a network session to a separate server for processing.

15 Jun 1998TL;DR: Experimental results indicate that these techniques can be very effective, even changes of 30% to the source file will usually result in bytecode that can be associated with the original.
Abstract: Several techniques for detecting similarities of Java programs from bytecode files, without access to the source, are introduced in this paper. These techniques can be used to compare two files, to find similarities among thousands of files, or to compare one new file to an index of many old ones. Experimental results indicate that these techniques can be very effective. Even changes of 30% to the source file will usually result in bytecode that can be associated with the original. Several applications are discussed.

16 Dec 1997TL;DR: In this article, a method for encrypting the RFID user's PIN and thereby making the interception and subsequent illegal use of RFID accounts at least as difficult as a present day ATM cards is presented.
Abstract: The present invention enables a Tag and Interrogator to exchange proprietary information using Modulated BackScatter (MBS) technology. This invention discloses a method for encrypting the RFID user's PIN and thereby making the interception and the subsequent illegal use of RFID accounts at least as difficult as a present day ATM cards. For example, the encryption method can be based upon the US Digital Encryption Standard (DES), either first or third level. The Tag's personal encryption key is only known by the financial database and the RFID Tag. This method can be applied to any type of financial, debt, identification, or credit card.
