TLDR
Five miRNA binding site SNPs associated significantly with breast cancer risk are located in the 3′ UTR of CASP8, HDDC3, DROSHA, MUSTN1, and MYCL1, respectively, which belongs to miRNA machinery genes and has a central role in initial miRNA processing.

Humus forms affect soil susceptibility to water erosion in the Western Italian Alps

TL;DR: In this paper, the influence of different humus forms on these parameters, and consequently on soil susceptibility to erosion, was evaluated and the results showed that the intrinsic characteristics of humus form, derived from the biological factors to which they are associated, influence soil erodibility and aggregate stability.

Whither Criminology: Its Global Futures?

TL;DR: In this article, the authors take as its starting point the recent interventions of Jock Young (2011) on the contemporary state of criminology and uncover the absences of positivism in two substantive areas of contemporary concern: violence against women and violent extremism.

Target development for diversified irradiations at a medical cyclotron.

TL;DR: The extended irradiation facility has considerably enhanced the utility of the medical cyclotron and results on nuclear data measurements and improvement of radiochemical separations are described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Psychological Vulnerabilities and Extremism Among Western Youth: A Literature Review

TL;DR: In this article, a review of twenty-five peer-reviewed empirical studies are analyzed with the aim of taking stock of current understandings of the effect of psychological vulnerabilities on young Westerners' propensity to endorse or engage in extremism.

Global cancer statistics

TL;DR: A substantial proportion of the worldwide burden of cancer could be prevented through the application of existing cancer control knowledge and by implementing programs for tobacco control, vaccination, and early detection and treatment, as well as public health campaigns promoting physical activity and a healthier dietary intake.

Conserved seed pairing, often flanked by adenosines, indicates that thousands of human genes are microRNA targets

TL;DR: In a four-genome analysis of 3' UTRs, approximately 13,000 regulatory relationships were detected above the estimate of false-positive predictions, thereby implicating as miRNA targets more than 5300 human genes, which represented 30% of the gene set.

Comprehensive molecular portraits of human breast tumours

Daniel C. Koboldt, +355 more
- 04 Oct 2012 -
TL;DR: The ability to integrate information across platforms provided key insights into previously defined gene expression subtypes and demonstrated the existence of four main breast cancer classes when combining data from five platforms, each of which shows significant molecular heterogeneity.

Most mammalian mRNAs are conserved targets of microRNAs

TL;DR: This work overhauled its tool for finding preferential conservation of sequence motifs and applied it to the analysis of human 3'UTRs, increasing by nearly threefold the detected number of preferentially conserved miRNA target sites.
