TLDR
Five miRNA binding site SNPs associated significantly with breast cancer risk are located in the 3′ UTR of CASP8, HDDC3, DROSHA, MUSTN1, and MYCL1, respectively, which belongs to miRNA machinery genes and has a central role in initial miRNA processing.

Psychological Demands and Health: An Examination of the Role of Core Self-evaluations in the Stress-Coping Process

TL;DR: In this article, the authors examined the direct and interactive effects of core self-evaluations (CSEs), psychological demands (i.e., quantitative and emotional demands) and coping strategies on mental and physical health in a sample of Argentinian managers.

Risk Prediction Models for Barrett’s Esophagus Discriminate Well and Are Generalizable in an External Validation Study

TL;DR: In this paper, three risk prediction models (Rubenstein, Thrift, and Baldwin-Hunter models) were compared to a fourth risk prediction model (Ireland model) for Barrett's esophagus.

A new TRAF-like protein from B. oleracea ssp. botrytis with lectin activity and its effect on macrophages

TL;DR: A new lectin from cauliflower is purified and characterized like a non-glycosylated protein that showed a molecular mass of ∼34kDa in SDS-PAGE and showed 100% homology to a putative TRAF-like protein from Brassica rapa and Brassica napus, a first report of the TRAf-protein with lectinic activity.

Efficient modeling of low‐resolution millimeter‐wave transceivers for massive MIMO wireless communications systems

TL;DR: Results indicate a 1‐bit OOK array with low power pre‐amplifiers can achieve similar capacity to a classical linear receiver with less than one tenth the power consumption.

Risky sexual behaviour among women: Does economic empowerment matter? Case of Gabon, Mozambique, Sierra-Leone and Zambia.

TL;DR: The findings both at community and individual level indicate that empowered women (higher education and wealth household) and adolescents aged 15 to 19 are highly significantly associated with engagement in high risky behaviour.

Global cancer statistics

TL;DR: A substantial proportion of the worldwide burden of cancer could be prevented through the application of existing cancer control knowledge and by implementing programs for tobacco control, vaccination, and early detection and treatment, as well as public health campaigns promoting physical activity and a healthier dietary intake.

Conserved seed pairing, often flanked by adenosines, indicates that thousands of human genes are microRNA targets

TL;DR: In a four-genome analysis of 3' UTRs, approximately 13,000 regulatory relationships were detected above the estimate of false-positive predictions, thereby implicating as miRNA targets more than 5300 human genes, which represented 30% of the gene set.

Comprehensive molecular portraits of human breast tumours

Daniel C. Koboldt, +355 more
- 04 Oct 2012 -
TL;DR: The ability to integrate information across platforms provided key insights into previously defined gene expression subtypes and demonstrated the existence of four main breast cancer classes when combining data from five platforms, each of which shows significant molecular heterogeneity.

Most mammalian mRNAs are conserved targets of microRNAs

TL;DR: This work overhauled its tool for finding preferential conservation of sequence motifs and applied it to the analysis of human 3'UTRs, increasing by nearly threefold the detected number of preferentially conserved miRNA target sites.
