TLDR
Five miRNA binding site SNPs associated significantly with breast cancer risk are located in the 3′ UTR of CASP8, HDDC3, DROSHA, MUSTN1, and MYCL1, respectively, which belongs to miRNA machinery genes and has a central role in initial miRNA processing.

The effects of vegetation on runoff and soil loss:Multidimensional structure analysis and scale characteristics

TL;DR: In this article, a review summarizes the effects of vegetation on runoff and soil loss in three dimensions: vertical vegetation structures (aboveground vegetation cover, surface litter layer and underground roots), plant diversity, vegetation patterns and their scale characteristics.

Photodegradation of organic dyes based on anatase and rutile TiO2 nanoparticles

TL;DR: In this paper, a simple nanochemistry based clean and efficient process for effective degradation of various organic dyes by use of anatase and rutile TiO2 nanoparticles was highlighted.

Evaluating the aesthetic value of cultural ecosystem services by mapping geo-tagged photographs from social media data on Panoramio and Flickr

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors evaluate aesthetic value in Nebraska by using citizen-reported geo-tagged photographs posted on two social media sites (Panoramio and Flickr) and use ArcGIS spatial statistical tools to examine spatial patterns with areas of aesthetic value.

Predicting MicroRNA-Disease Associations Based on Improved MicroRNA and Disease Similarities

TL;DR: This study proposes a computational framework, KBMF-MDI, to predict the associations between miRNAs and diseases based on their similarities, and demonstrates that the method can effectively predict unknown miRNA-disease associations.

Global cancer statistics

TL;DR: A substantial proportion of the worldwide burden of cancer could be prevented through the application of existing cancer control knowledge and by implementing programs for tobacco control, vaccination, and early detection and treatment, as well as public health campaigns promoting physical activity and a healthier dietary intake.

Conserved seed pairing, often flanked by adenosines, indicates that thousands of human genes are microRNA targets

TL;DR: In a four-genome analysis of 3' UTRs, approximately 13,000 regulatory relationships were detected above the estimate of false-positive predictions, thereby implicating as miRNA targets more than 5300 human genes, which represented 30% of the gene set.

Comprehensive molecular portraits of human breast tumours

Daniel C. Koboldt, +355 more
- 04 Oct 2012 -
TL;DR: The ability to integrate information across platforms provided key insights into previously defined gene expression subtypes and demonstrated the existence of four main breast cancer classes when combining data from five platforms, each of which shows significant molecular heterogeneity.

Most mammalian mRNAs are conserved targets of microRNAs

TL;DR: This work overhauled its tool for finding preferential conservation of sequence motifs and applied it to the analysis of human 3'UTRs, increasing by nearly threefold the detected number of preferentially conserved miRNA target sites.
