TLDR
Five miRNA binding site SNPs associated significantly with breast cancer risk are located in the 3′ UTR of CASP8, HDDC3, DROSHA, MUSTN1, and MYCL1, respectively, which belongs to miRNA machinery genes and has a central role in initial miRNA processing.

Update on APOA5 Genetics: Toward a Better Understanding of Its Physiological Impact

TL;DR: In high cardiovascular risk patients (e.g., patients with metabolic syndrome or type 2 diabetes), APOA5 variants elevate TG levels and shift the entire lipoprotein subclass distribution toward atherogenic dyslipidemia, and apoAV seems to encompass more roles than those initially suggested after its discovery.

Pathogenic chytrid fungus Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis, but not B. salamandrivorans, detected on eastern hellbenders.

TL;DR: This study is among the first to evaluate the distribution of Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans in the United States, and is consistent with another, which failed to detect Bs in the U.S. knowledge about the distribution, host range, and origin of Bs may help control the spread of this pathogen.

Crop-to-wild gene flow and its fitness consequences for a wild fruit tree: Towards a comprehensive conservation strategy of the wild apple in Europe.

TL;DR: Substantial contemporary crop‐to‐wild gene flow is found in crab‐apple tree populations and superior fitness of hybrids compared to wild seeds and seedlings is found.

Effects of landscape and habitat quality on Orthoptera assemblages of pre-alpine calcareous grasslands

TL;DR: Conservation management of grassland Orthoptera should primarily focus on improving habitat heterogeneity and habitat quality within patches, and the explanatory power of the abundance models was at least twice as high as those of the species richness models.

Global cancer statistics

TL;DR: A substantial proportion of the worldwide burden of cancer could be prevented through the application of existing cancer control knowledge and by implementing programs for tobacco control, vaccination, and early detection and treatment, as well as public health campaigns promoting physical activity and a healthier dietary intake.

Conserved seed pairing, often flanked by adenosines, indicates that thousands of human genes are microRNA targets

TL;DR: In a four-genome analysis of 3' UTRs, approximately 13,000 regulatory relationships were detected above the estimate of false-positive predictions, thereby implicating as miRNA targets more than 5300 human genes, which represented 30% of the gene set.

Comprehensive molecular portraits of human breast tumours

Daniel C. Koboldt, +355 more
- 04 Oct 2012 -
TL;DR: The ability to integrate information across platforms provided key insights into previously defined gene expression subtypes and demonstrated the existence of four main breast cancer classes when combining data from five platforms, each of which shows significant molecular heterogeneity.

Most mammalian mRNAs are conserved targets of microRNAs

TL;DR: This work overhauled its tool for finding preferential conservation of sequence motifs and applied it to the analysis of human 3'UTRs, increasing by nearly threefold the detected number of preferentially conserved miRNA target sites.
