Abstract

Analysis and prediction of leucine-rich nuclear export signals

TL;DR: A thorough analysis of nuclear export signals and a prediction server is presented, which shows that the most important properties of NESs are accessibility and flexibility allowing relevant proteins to interact with the signal.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bone Morphogenetic Protein (BMP) signaling in development and human diseases.

TL;DR: This review focuses on genetically manipulated mouse knockout models that have helped elucidate the role of BMPs in development and a significant portion of this review is devoted to the prominent human pathologies associated with dysregulated BMP signaling

Quantum Spin Hall Effect and Topological Field Effect Transistor in Two-Dimensional Transition Metal Dichalcogenides

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel topological field effect transistor made of these atomic layer materials and their van der Waals heterostructures is proposed, which exhibits parametrically enhanced charge-spin conductance through topologically protected transport channels, and can be rapidly switched off by electric field through topological phase transition.
Journal ArticleDOI

Creating a False Memory in the Hippocampus

TL;DR: The data demonstrate that it is possible to generate an internally represented and behaviorally expressed fear memory via artificial means through reactivation of memory engram–bearing cells in the hippocampus.

Raman spectrum of graphene and graphene layers.

TL;DR: This work shows that graphene's electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers, and allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area.

Finding and evaluating community structure in networks.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the algorithms proposed are highly effective at discovering community structure in both computer-generated and real-world network data, and can be used to shed light on the sometimes dauntingly complex structure of networked systems.

A programmable dual-RNA-guided DNA endonuclease in adaptive bacterial immunity.

TL;DR: This study reveals a family of endonucleases that use dual-RNAs for site-specific DNA cleavage and highlights the potential to exploit the system for RNA-programmable genome editing.

Understanding the Warburg Effect: The Metabolic Requirements of Cell Proliferation

TL;DR: It is proposed that the metabolism of cancer cells, and indeed all proliferating cells, is adapted to facilitate the uptake and incorporation of nutrients into the biomass needed to produce a new cell.
