read more

Raman spectrum of graphene and graphene layers.
Andrea C. Ferrari,Jannik C. Meyer,Vittorio Scardaci,Cinzia Casiraghi,Michele Lazzeri,Francesco Mauri,S. Piscanec,Da Jiang,K. S. Novoselov,S. Roth,A. K. Geim +10 more
TL;DR: This work shows that graphene's electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers, and allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area.
Journal ArticleDOI
Finding and evaluating community structure in networks.
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the algorithms proposed are highly effective at discovering community structure in both computer-generated and real-world network data, and can be used to shed light on the sometimes dauntingly complex structure of networked systems.

A programmable dual-RNA-guided DNA endonuclease in adaptive bacterial immunity.
Martin Jinek,Krzysztof Chylinski,Krzysztof Chylinski,Ines Fonfara,Michael H. Hauer,Jennifer A. Doudna,Emmanuelle Charpentier +6 more
TL;DR: This study reveals a family of endonucleases that use dual-RNAs for site-specific DNA cleavage and highlights the potential to exploit the system for RNA-programmable genome editing.

The MIQE Guidelines: Minimum Information for Publication of Quantitative Real-Time PCR Experiments
Stephen A. Bustin,Vladimir Benes,Jeremy A. Garson,Jan Hellemans,Jim F. Huggett,Mikael Kubista,Reinhold Mueller,Tania Nolan,Michael W. Pfaffl,Gregory L. Shipley,Jo Vandesompele,Carl T. Wittwer,Carl T. Wittwer +12 more
TL;DR: The Minimum Information for Publication of Quantitative Real-Time PCR Experiments (MIQE) guidelines target the reliability of results to help ensure the integrity of the scientific literature, promote consistency between laboratories, and increase experimental transparency.
Journal ArticleDOI
Understanding the Warburg Effect: The Metabolic Requirements of Cell Proliferation
TL;DR: It is proposed that the metabolism of cancer cells, and indeed all proliferating cells, is adapted to facilitate the uptake and incorporation of nutrients into the biomass needed to produce a new cell.

Dynamical clustering and phase separation in suspensions of self-propelled colloidal particles.
Ivo Buttinoni,Ivo Buttinoni,Julian Bialké,Felix Kümmel,Felix Kümmel,Hartmut Löwen,Clemens Bechinger,Clemens Bechinger,Thomas Speck +8 more
TL;DR: A (quasi-)two-dimensional colloidal suspension of self-propelled spherical particles propelled due to diffusiophoresis in a near-critical water-lutidine mixture finds that the driving stabilizes small clusters and undergoes a phase separation into large clusters and a dilute gas phase.

How Enzymes Work: Analysis by Modern Rate Theory and Computer Simulations
TL;DR: A framework for understanding the effects of lowering of the activation free energy and changes in the generalized transmission coefficient on enzyme catalysis is presented, and the contributions of the different factors are identified and quantified by computer simulations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hyperbolic geometry of complex networks
TL;DR: It is shown that targeted transport processes without global topology knowledge are maximally efficient, according to all efficiency measures, in networks with strongest heterogeneity and clustering, and that this efficiency is remarkably robust with respect to even catastrophic disturbances and damages to the network structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Representation of geometric borders in the entorhinal cortex.
TL;DR: The existence of an entorhinal cell type that fires when an animal is close to the borders of the proximal environment is reported, and border cells may be instrumental in planning trajectories and anchoring grid fields and place fields to a geometric reference frame.

DNA Translocation through Graphene Nanopores
Grégory F. Schneider,Stefan W. Kowalczyk,V. E. Calado,Gregory Pandraud,Henny W. Zandbergen,Lieven M. K. Vandersypen,Cees Dekker +6 more
TL;DR: This paper provides proof of concept that it is possible to realize and use ultrathin nanopores fabricated in graphene monolayers for single-molecule DNA translocation.
