Abstract

Anomalous Band Gap Behavior in Mixed Sn and Pb Perovskites Enables Broadening of Absorption Spectrum in Solar Cells

TL;DR: The results show that CH3NH3Sn(0.5)Pb(0-x)I3 has the broadest light absorption and highest short-circuit photocurrent density ~20 mA cm(-2) (obtained under simulated full sunlight of 100 mW cm−2).

Mapping human cortical areas in vivo based on myelin content as revealed by T1- and T2-weighted MRI

TL;DR: The overall pattern in the myelin maps also has important correlations with the developmental onset of subcortical white matter myelination, evolutionary cortical areal expansion in human compared with macaques, postnatal cortical expansion in humans, and maps of neuronal density in non-human primates.

Enhanced semiconductor optical absorption via surface plasmon excitation in metal nanoparticles

TL;DR: In this paper, an engineered enhancement of optical absorption and photocurrent in a semiconductor via the excitation of surface plasmon resonances in spherical Au nanoparticles deposited on the semiconductor surface was reported.

The Role of Oxidative Stress in Parkinson’s Disease

TL;DR: Animal models of PD have yielded some insights into the molecular pathways of neuronal degeneration and highlighted previously unknown mechanisms by which oxidative stress contributes to PD, but therapeutic attempts to target the general state of oxidative stress in clinical trials have failed to demonstrate an impact on disease progression.

Disrupting the Pairing Between let-7 and Hmga2 Enhances Oncogenic Transformation

TL;DR: It is reported that chromosomal translocations previously associated with human tumors disrupt repression of High Mobility Group A2 (Hmga2) by let-7 miRNA, which promotes anchorage-independent growth, a characteristic of oncogenic transformation.

Raman spectrum of graphene and graphene layers.

TL;DR: This work shows that graphene's electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers, and allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area.

Finding and evaluating community structure in networks.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the algorithms proposed are highly effective at discovering community structure in both computer-generated and real-world network data, and can be used to shed light on the sometimes dauntingly complex structure of networked systems.

A programmable dual-RNA-guided DNA endonuclease in adaptive bacterial immunity.

TL;DR: This study reveals a family of endonucleases that use dual-RNAs for site-specific DNA cleavage and highlights the potential to exploit the system for RNA-programmable genome editing.

Understanding the Warburg Effect: The Metabolic Requirements of Cell Proliferation

TL;DR: It is proposed that the metabolism of cancer cells, and indeed all proliferating cells, is adapted to facilitate the uptake and incorporation of nutrients into the biomass needed to produce a new cell.
