Abstract

Raman spectrum of graphene and graphene layers.

TL;DR: This work shows that graphene's electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers, and allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area.
Journal ArticleDOI

Finding and evaluating community structure in networks.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the algorithms proposed are highly effective at discovering community structure in both computer-generated and real-world network data, and can be used to shed light on the sometimes dauntingly complex structure of networked systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

A programmable dual-RNA-guided DNA endonuclease in adaptive bacterial immunity.

TL;DR: This study reveals a family of endonucleases that use dual-RNAs for site-specific DNA cleavage and highlights the potential to exploit the system for RNA-programmable genome editing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding the Warburg Effect: The Metabolic Requirements of Cell Proliferation

TL;DR: It is proposed that the metabolism of cancer cells, and indeed all proliferating cells, is adapted to facilitate the uptake and incorporation of nutrients into the biomass needed to produce a new cell.

The Structure of the Eukaryotic Ribosome at 3.0 Å Resolution

TL;DR: The crystal structure of the 80S ribosome from the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is reported, which reveals the architecture of eukaryote-specific elements and their interaction with the universally conserved core, and describes all eukariotes-specific bridges between the two ribosomal subunits.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genomic analysis of regulatory network dynamics reveals large topological changes

TL;DR: The dynamics of a biological network on a genomic scale is presented, by integrating transcriptional regulatory information and gene-expression data for multiple conditions in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, using an approach for the statistical analysis of network dynamics, called SANDY, combining well-known global topological measures, local motifs and newly derived statistics.

The Role of Surface Oxygen in the Growth of Large Single-Crystal Graphene on Copper

TL;DR: It was found that the presence of surface oxygen could limit the number of nucleation sites and allowed centimeter-scale domains to grow through a diffusion-limited mechanism, and the electrical conductivity of the graphene was comparable to that of exfoliated graphene.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oncogenes and cancer.

TL;DR: This review — the first in a series concerning the biology of cancer — is a comprehensive survey of oncogenes, tumor-suppressor genes, and microRNA genes in cancer cells.

Functional traits and niche-based tree community assembly in an Amazonian forest

TL;DR: This work examines the co-occurrence patterns of over 1100 tree species in a 25-hectare Amazonian forest plot in relation to field-measured functional traits and finds evidence for processes that simultaneously drive convergence and divergence in key aspects of plant strategy.
