Abstract

Molecular dynamics: survey of methods for simulating the activity of proteins.

TL;DR: This review offers an outline of the origin of molecular dynamics simulation for protein systems and how it has developed into a robust and trusted tool, and covers more recent advances in theory and an illustrative selection of practical studies in which it played a central role.

Diurnal and Seasonal Mood Vary with Work, Sleep, and Daylength Across Diverse Cultures

TL;DR: Individual-level diurnal and seasonal mood rhythms in cultures across the globe are identified, using data from millions of public Twitter messages, and it is found that individuals awaken in a good mood that deteriorating as the day progresses.

On Making the Right Choice: The Deliberation-Without-Attention Effect

TL;DR: The hypothesis that simple choices indeed produce better results after conscious thought, but that choices in complex matters should be left to unconscious thought was confirmed in four studies on consumer choice.

Human PAD4 regulates histone arginine methylation levels via demethylimination.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that human peptidylarginine deiminase 4 (PAD4) regulates histone Arg methylation by converting methyl-Arg to citrulline and releasing methylamine, and that PAD4 activity is linked with the transcriptional regulation of estrogen-responsive genes in MCF-7 cells.

Hold your horses: impulsivity, deep brain stimulation, and medication in parkinsonism.

TL;DR: It is shown that DBS selectively interferes with the normal ability to slow down when faced with decision conflict, which implicate independent mechanisms leading to impulsivity in treated Parkinson's patients and were predicted by a single neurocomputational model of the basal ganglia.

Raman spectrum of graphene and graphene layers.

TL;DR: This work shows that graphene's electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers, and allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area.
Journal ArticleDOI

Finding and evaluating community structure in networks.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the algorithms proposed are highly effective at discovering community structure in both computer-generated and real-world network data, and can be used to shed light on the sometimes dauntingly complex structure of networked systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

A programmable dual-RNA-guided DNA endonuclease in adaptive bacterial immunity.

TL;DR: This study reveals a family of endonucleases that use dual-RNAs for site-specific DNA cleavage and highlights the potential to exploit the system for RNA-programmable genome editing.

Understanding the Warburg Effect: The Metabolic Requirements of Cell Proliferation

TL;DR: It is proposed that the metabolism of cancer cells, and indeed all proliferating cells, is adapted to facilitate the uptake and incorporation of nutrients into the biomass needed to produce a new cell.
