Abstract

Millisecond Kinetics on a Microfluidic Chip Using Nanoliters of Reagents

TL;DR: A microfluidic chip for performing kinetic measurements with better than millisecond resolution and biocompatibility with RNase A, which could serve as an inexpensive and economical complement to stopped-flow methods for a broad range of time-resolved experiments and assays in chemistry and biochemistry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Social Influence Bias: A Randomized Experiment

TL;DR: A large-scale randomized experiment on a social news aggregation Web site was designed and analyzed to investigate whether knowledge of such aggregates distorts decision-making, and found positive herding was topic-dependent and affected by whether individuals were viewing the opinions of friends or enemies.

Water splitting–biosynthetic system with CO2 reduction efficiencies exceeding photosynthesis

TL;DR: A hybrid water splitting–biosynthetic system based on a biocompatible Earth-abundant inorganic catalyst system to split water into molecular hydrogen and oxygen at low driving voltages that has a CO2 reduction energy efficiency exceeding that of natural photosynthetic systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cryo-EM Structure of a Fully Glycosylated Soluble Cleaved HIV-1 Envelope Trimer

TL;DR: A cryo–electron microscopy reconstruction and structural model of a cleaved, soluble Env trimer in complex with a CD4 binding site bnAb, PGV04 is presented, which reveals the spatial arrangement of Env components, including the V1/V2, V3, HR1, and HR2 domains, as well as shielding glycans.

A synthetic DNA walker for molecular transport

TL;DR: A processive bipedal DNA walker powered by externally controlled DNA fuel strands is demonstrated, with real-time monitoring of specific bidirectional walker movement achieved via multiplexed fluorescence quenching.

Raman spectrum of graphene and graphene layers.

TL;DR: This work shows that graphene's electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers, and allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area.

Finding and evaluating community structure in networks.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the algorithms proposed are highly effective at discovering community structure in both computer-generated and real-world network data, and can be used to shed light on the sometimes dauntingly complex structure of networked systems.
Journal ArticleDOI

A programmable dual-RNA-guided DNA endonuclease in adaptive bacterial immunity.

TL;DR: This study reveals a family of endonucleases that use dual-RNAs for site-specific DNA cleavage and highlights the potential to exploit the system for RNA-programmable genome editing.

Understanding the Warburg Effect: The Metabolic Requirements of Cell Proliferation

TL;DR: It is proposed that the metabolism of cancer cells, and indeed all proliferating cells, is adapted to facilitate the uptake and incorporation of nutrients into the biomass needed to produce a new cell.
