Abstract

Raman spectrum of graphene and graphene layers.

TL;DR: This work shows that graphene's electronic structure is captured in its Raman spectrum that clearly evolves with the number of layers, and allows unambiguous, high-throughput, nondestructive identification of graphene layers, which is critically lacking in this emerging research area.
Journal ArticleDOI

Finding and evaluating community structure in networks.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the algorithms proposed are highly effective at discovering community structure in both computer-generated and real-world network data, and can be used to shed light on the sometimes dauntingly complex structure of networked systems.

A programmable dual-RNA-guided DNA endonuclease in adaptive bacterial immunity.

TL;DR: This study reveals a family of endonucleases that use dual-RNAs for site-specific DNA cleavage and highlights the potential to exploit the system for RNA-programmable genome editing.

Understanding the Warburg Effect: The Metabolic Requirements of Cell Proliferation

TL;DR: It is proposed that the metabolism of cancer cells, and indeed all proliferating cells, is adapted to facilitate the uptake and incorporation of nutrients into the biomass needed to produce a new cell.

An Experimental Study of Search in Global Social Networks

TL;DR: It is concluded that although global social networks are, in principle, searchable, actual success depends sensitively on individual incentives.

Electroluminescence and Photocurrent Generation from Atomically Sharp WSe2/MoS2 Heterojunction p–n Diodes

TL;DR: In this article, an atomically thin and sharp heterojunction p-n diode can be created by vertically stacking p-type monolayer tungsten diselenide (WSe2) and n-type few-layer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2).

In vitro toxicity of silica nanoparticles in human lung cancer cells

TL;DR: Exposure to SiO(2) nanoparticles results in a dose-dependent cytotoxicity in cultural human bronchoalveolar carcinoma-derived cells that is closely correlated to increased oxidative stress.

Microbial and animal rhodopsins: structures, functions, and molecular mechanisms.

TL;DR: Rhodopsins found in Eukaryotes, Bacteria, and Archaea consist of opsin apoproteins and a covalently linked retinal which is employed to absorb photons for energy conversion or the initiation of intra- or intercellular signaling.

Protein Conformational Dynamics Probed by Single-Molecule Electron Transfer

TL;DR: By probing the fluorescence lifetime of the single flavin on a photon-by-photon basis, the variation of flavin-tyrosine distance over time is observed, suggesting the existence of multiple interconverting conformers related to the fluctuating catalytic reactivity.
