TL;DR: Anisotropic permittivity measurements reveal that 1 exhibits huge dielectric anisotropy along its three different crystal axes that is ca.
Abstract: Hydrothermal reaction of (S)-1,1‘1‘ ‘-2,4,6-trimethylbenzene-1,3,5-triyl-tris(methylene)-tris-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid (TBPLA) with Ni(ClO4)2·6H2O gave pale green block crystals of 1. X-ray crystal structure analysis showed the complex to be a trinuclear descrete homochiral molecule with each Ni center sitting in distorted octahedron geometries. Anisotropic permittivity measurements reveal that 1 exhibits huge dielectric anisotropy along its three different crystal axes that is ca. 3.5 times of er (E//c)/er (E//b) with temperature and frequency independence.

TL;DR: A task force on war-related stress was convened to develop strategies for prevention and treatment of psychological, psychosocial, and psychosomatic disorders associated with the Persian Gulf War and other extreme stressors facing communities in general as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A task force on war-related stress was convened to develop strategies for prevention and treatment of psychological, psychosocial, and psychosomatic disorders associated with the Persian Gulf War and other extreme stressors facing communities in general The task force focused on the return home, reunion, and reintegration of service personnel with their families and work Although the Persian Gulf War was won with relative ease, negative psychological sequelae may develop in some individuals because of the stress of war, family disruption, financial difficulty, and changes in family routines Typical stress reactions and modes of coping that are usually unsuccessful or destructive were outlined, and suggestions were made for monitoring these In addition, guidelines for successful coping were developed Special attention was given to children's reactions and needs Recommendations were made for outreach and intervention on the policy, systems (eg, schools, businesses, governmental agencies), family, and individual levels

TL;DR: It is reported that these massive outbreaks of N. scintillans during winter are being facilitated by an unprecedented influx of oxygen deficient waters into the euphotic zone and by the extraordinary ability of its endosymbiont Pedinomonas noctilucae to fix carbon more efficiently than other phytoplankton under hypoxic conditions.
Abstract: In the last decade, the northern Arabian Sea has witnessed a radical shift in the composition of winter phytoplankton blooms, which previously comprised mainly of diatoms, the unicellular, siliceous photosynthetic organisms favoured by nutrient-enriched waters from convective mixing. These trophically important diatom blooms have been replaced by widespread blooms of a large, green dinoflagellate, Noctiluca scintillans, which combines carbon fixation from its chlorophyll-containing endosymbiont with ingestion of prey. Here, we report that these massive outbreaks of N. scintillans during winter are being facilitated by an unprecedented influx of oxygen deficient waters into the euphotic zone and by the extraordinary ability of its endosymbiont Pedinomonas noctilucae to fix carbon more efficiently than other phytoplankton under hypoxic conditions. We contend that N. scintillans blooms could disrupt the traditional diatom-sustained food chain to the detriment of regional fisheries and long-term health of an ecosystem supporting a coastal population of nearly 120 million people.

TL;DR: HaloTag-based target-specific azido DCDHFs are reported, a class of photoactivatable push-pull fluorogens which produce bright fluorescent labels suitable for single-molecule superresolution imaging in live bacterial and fixed mammalian cells.
Abstract: Superresolution imaging techniques based on sequential imaging of sparse subsets of single molecules require fluorophores whose emission can be photoactivated or photoswitched. Because typical organic fluorophores can emit significantly more photons than average fluorescent proteins, organic fluorophores have a potential advantage in super-resolution imaging schemes, but targeting to specific cellular proteins must be provided. We report the design and application of HaloTag-based target-specific azido DCDHFs, a class of photoactivatable push−pull fluorogens which produce bright fluorescent labels suitable for single-molecule superresolution imaging in live bacterial and fixed mammalian cells.

TL;DR: In this article, a co-condensation synthesis of cyanopropyl-containing ordered mesoporous silica (CP-OMS) and conversion of the cyanoprocessor into amidoxime groups was proposed to achieve high loading of organic groups.
Abstract: Amidoxime-modified ordered mesoporous silica (AO-OMS) materials were prepared by a two-step process involving: (1) co-condensation synthesis of cyanopropyl-containing ordered mesoporous silica (CP-OMS), and (2) conversion of cyanopropyl into amidoxime groups. The aforementioned co-condensation synthesis is simple and less time consuming as compared to the post-synthesis grafting and assures high loading of organic groups. The intermediate CP-OMS exhibited ordered mesoporosity, high specific surface area, and narrow pore size distribution. Interestingly, conversion of CP-OMS to AO-OMS further improved its properties by enhancing the specific surface area and porosity and achieving high loading of amidoxime groups. High affinity of these groups towards uranium species makes the AO-OMS material an attractive sorbent for uranium recovery as evidenced by very high uranium uptake reaching 57 mg of uranium per gram of AO-OMS under seawater conditions.
