TL;DR: Examination of the perception and use of e‐resources and the internet by the engineering, medical and management academics in Bangalore City, India aims to find out how academics compare e‐sources with print sources and how they perceive the advantages and problems for accessing them.
Abstract: Purpose – This paper aims to examine the perception and use of e‐resources and the internet by the engineering, medical and management academics in Bangalore City, India. The prime objective is to find out how academics compare e‐sources with print sources and how they perceive the advantages of e‐sources and problems for accessing them. It further aims to establish the extent of internet use, the purpose of such use and factors influencing it.Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from 300 students and faculty members in selected engineering, medical and management colleges of Bangalore City. The questionnaire consists of 15 main questions with many of them having a number of subsidiary questions. The questions are designed for the students and faculty members to elicit their experience with the e‐sources and internet use for their study and research work.Findings – Study results show that the students and faculty who participated in this survey are aware of e‐sources and also the internet. TL;DR: In this paper, an environmentally friendly hydrometallurgical leaching process for the recovery of metal ions from the cathode active materials of spent lithium-ion batteries was investigated, where the powder obtained after physical separation was subjected for leaching using easily degradable organic acids like nitrilotriacetic acid, adipic acid, and ascorbic acid.
Abstract: An environmentally friendly hydrometallurgical leaching process for the recovery of metal ions from the cathode active materials of spent lithium-ion batteries was investigated. The spent LIBs were first dismantled and separated by physical separation. The powder obtained after physical separation was subjected for leaching using easily degradable organic acids like nitrilotriacetic acid, adipic acid, and ascorbic acid. The leaching proceeds with a reductive-complexing mechanism and leaching occurs in about 6 h. The leaching rate constants (k) for Li and Co ions were determined by ‘cubic rate law’ plots. The formation of Co(III)– to Co(II)–Ligand during the leaching is confirmed from the UV–Vis spectra. The structural, morphology of the cathode materials before and after leaching was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM). The amount of lithium and cobalt present in the leachate was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). The presence of ascorbic acid in adipic acid solution is an active reducing agent compared to ascorbic acid in nitrilotriacetic acid solution because it enhances the leaching efficiency.

TL;DR: This study sequenced 850 bp of the mitochondrial COI (mtCOI) gene from B. tabaci populations surveyed across India, suggesting a role of anthropogenic activities in the distribution of B.tabaci.
Abstract: The whitefly Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) is a phloem-feeding, economically important pest of crops worldwide. In addition to direct damage, it also vectors a number of plant viruses belonging to the family Geminiviridae. Its populations differ biologically with respect to insecticide resistance, virus transmission and host range. Therefore, understanding genetic variation among populations is important for management. We sequenced 850 bp of the mitochondrial COI (mtCOI) gene from B. tabaci populations surveyed across India. BLAST analysis of the mtCOI sequences generated in this study with sequences from the mtCOI dataset showed the presence of one invasive group, MEAM1, and eight other groups of B. tabaci in India. mtCOI sequence analyses showed the presence of Asia I, Asia I-India, Asia II-1, Asia II-5, Asia II-7, Asia II-8, and Asia II-11 genetic groups. We also found China-3 in a field in Birbhum district, West Bengal, India, suggesting a role of anthropogenic activities in the distribution of B. tabaci. Interestingly, more than one genetic group was found coexisting in the same field.
