TL;DR: Ethanol extract of Usnea Longissima exhibited significant antibacterial activity and antifungal activity with 1mg/ml Agar well diffusion method against six infectious strains and two dermatophytic fungi Trichoderma viride and Candida albicans.
Abstract: Introduction: Usnea Longissima is an epiphyte species of lichen belongs to the family Parmeliaceae. Lichenic acids isolated from Usnea Longissima are growth inhibitors. Usnea Longissima was used a dermatological aid for during wounds in the pecific North West. Methods: The ethanol extract of Usnea Longissima were screened for potential antibacterial activity and antifungal activity using Agar well diffusion method against six infectious strains and two dermatophytic fungi Trichoderma viride and Candida albicans. Results: Ethanol extract of Usnea Longissima exhibited significant antibacterial activity and antifungal activity with 1mg/ml Agar well diffusion method against the Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus (26 ± 0.5), and Gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa (18 ± 0.5), Klebsiella pneumoniae (21 ± 0.5), Shigella dysenteriae (10 ± 0.3), Salmonella typhi (14 ± 0.5), Escherichia coli (-) and two dermatophytic fungi Trichoderma viride (14 ± 0.5) and Candida albicans (11 ± 0.5). Conclusion The present study is justified the traditional use and the effect of ethanol extract of lichen Usnea longissima was screened their level of antimicrobial potential.

TL;DR: In this paper, 4-alkoxyphenyl-7-triflouromethyl-coumarin-3-carboxylates 7a-g exhibited liquid crystalline SmA phase.
Abstract: New liquid crystalline 4-alkoxyphenyl-coumarin-3-carboxylates 6a–e, 7a–g, 8a–e, and 9a–e were prepared by reacting various coumarin-3-carboxylic acids 5a–d with 4-(alkoxy) phenols 4a–g in the presence of 1(3-dimethylaminopropyl-3-ethylcarbodiimide/dimethyl amino pyridine (EDCI/DMAP) as a coupling agent. The structures of the new coumarin derivatives were confirmed by spectral analysis and the liquid crystalline property was established by polarizing optical microscope and by differential scanning calorimetric techniques. The diethyl amine and morpholine were taken as electron-donating and –CF3 as electron-withdrawing groups at the seventh position of the coumarin-3-carboxylic acids to check the mesomorphic property in all new 4-alkoxyphenyl-coumarin-3-carboxylates. Among them, only 4-alkoxyphenyl-7-triflouromethyl-coumarin-3-carboxylates 7a–g exhibited liquid crystalline SmA phase.

TL;DR: Antioxidant property of flaxseed chutney was evident by decreasing lipid peroxidation (TBARS) and predictor enzyme γ-glutamyl transpeptidase profile and micronuclei formation in azoxymethane treated rats.
Abstract: Antioxidant property of flaxseed chutney was evident by decreasing lipid peroxidation (TBARS) and predictor enzyme γ-glutamyl transpeptidase profile and micronuclei formation in azoxymethane treated rats. After 10 weeks, rats fed with either fiber-free basal diet or Antioxidant diet exhibited over sevenfold increase in γ-glutamyl transpeptidase activity and nearly fourfold increase in micronuclei load in comparison to controls (p<0.001). A significant reduction in both γ-glutamyl transpeptidase level (52%) and micronuclei formation (47%) was observed in fiber-free basal diet/Antioxidant diet/flaxseed chutney diet fed rats. Relative to rats fed fiber-free basal diet, the profile of γ-glutamyl transpeptidase and micronuclei load was not significantly altered.
