Abstract: This paper aims to describe and classify longitudinally the anthropometric profile of a group of children with mielomeningocelisincluded in a special program of physical activities. Twenty and four children with mielomeningocelis were evaluated at three momentswith an interval of 1 year. Factors evaluated were weight, stature and Body Mass Index (BMI). Children were classified in accordance tothe percentile of stature/age (S/A) and BMI/age (IMC/idade) correlations. From the total of evaluated children, 54,2% (n = 13) were ofmale (age: 7,0 ± 2.4 years) and 45.8% (n = 11) female (age 6,0 ± 2.0 years). The main findings were: most children had a growth deficitthat was not reversed in a three-year interval; most children tend to become overweight and/or obese, something slightly attenuated inboys and slightly aggravated in girls. It was possible to observe nutritional deviations in this group of children (low stature, overweightand obesity), and the maintenance of these during a period of three years. Considering this, some recommendations may be made:one should consider the possibility of developing specific growth curves for this type of compromising, the accomplishment of studiescomparing physically active and sedentary children, submitted or not to nutritional guiding.

Abstract: Varenicline is a medication used for smoking treatment that acts as a partial agonist for nicotinic cholinergic receptors α4β2 and α3β4 and as a total agonist of receptor α7 in the central nervous system. Pharmacokinetic is important information for medications that acts in the central nervous system. This kind of assay is commonly done by expensive and complex analytical techniques. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the possibility of using the open field test as a pharmacokinetic model for varenicline in male rats exposed to a single dose of varenicline. Male rats received a single dose orally (gavage) of three different concentrations of varenicline: 0.03 (therapeutic dose for humans), 0.1 and 0.3 mg/kg or water (control group). The open field observations were recorded 30 min, 1, 2, 4, 6, 24, 48, 72 h and 7 days after the administration of varenicline or water. The results showed alterations in locomotion and rearing frequencies, as well as in immobility time observed in open field, which is consistent with this drug’s plasma peak. Consequently, this behavioral test apparently can be considerate as a model for pharmacokinetic evaluation of varenicline.

Abstract: O presente estudo visou caracterizar e discutir a producao cientifica a respeito de FAP, mais especificamente estender o estudo de Mangabeira et al. (2012) para a producao compreendida entre 2010 e 2013. O metodo consistiu em levantar e analisar artigos sobre FAP (a) indexados em cinco bases de dados, a saber: PubMed, SciELO, Virtual Health Library – Psychology, MEDLINE e Lilacs; (b) listados nas referencias do site de FAP http://functionalanalyticpsychotherapy.com, bem como nos sites Science Direct e ISI Web of Knowledge; e (c) publicados nos jornais JABA, JEAB, The Behavior Analyst, The Behavior Analysis Today, IJBCT e JEIBI. A palavra-chave utilizada foi “Functional Analytic Psychotherapy”, considerando os idiomas ingles e portugues, e a sigla “FAP”. Os 46 estudos encontrados foram categorizados conforme suas caracteristicas bibliograficas, metodologicas e tematicas. Os principais resultados encontrados foram que: houve um aumento na quantidade de publicacoes a respeito de FAP no ultimo trienio, quando comparada aos periodos anteriores — resultado este que pode ter sido influenciado pela edicao de um volume especial do periodico The International Journal of Behavioral Consultation and Therapy dedicado ao tema —; a maioria dos estudos sao de campo/empiricos e lancam mao de medidas de observacao para coleta de dados; ha uma preferencia por estudos com poucos participantes (sugerindo o uso de delineamentos de sujeito como seu proprio controle) e com populacao adulta; e os principais temas estudos tem sido tratamento com FAP, comparacao com ACT e terapia de grupo com FAP.

Abstract: This paper aims to discuss the didactic opportunities of a Probability teaching activity (SE) proposed to secondary (11-14 years) and high school (14-17 years) students. This SE named “Passeios Aleatorios da Carlinha” was developed by team of “Virtual Environment for support in developing statistical literacy for scholar students (AVALE-EB)” to be used in paper and pencil learning environment such as virtual environment. This SE provides to discuss probabilistic basic concepts, construct simple frequency tables and respective bar charts, compare deterministic situation and random experiments, estimate probabilities with relative frequency, compute theoretical probability by using possibilities tree and compare the estimate and theoretical probability. The teacher can explore these concepts in a progressive manner, according to knowledge level of students. Besides, the entertainment way of SE highlights students becomes motivated and relaxed during the activity and everyone can accomplish the task and realize the importance of the concepts of Probability, which enhances the feasibility of this SE in schools.

Abstract: In 1906, Emilio Ribas reorganized the Sanitation Service and centralized Sao Paulo state public health services in the state capital. A campaign to combat trachoma, an ophthalmic disease, was implemented as part of this project. This article analyzes this campaign, which provided care for the sick living on rural properties in a process that predated the 1917 Rural Sanitary Code. The empirical data was obtained from government reports, decrees, medical journals and newspapers. We conclude that Ribas, by creating an organization that integrated the efforts of the sanitary districts and the Trachoma Commission medical teams, sought to form a complex apparatus to combat the diseases present in both urban areas and the countryside.
