TLDR
An open standard format for multidimensional microscopy image data is described and it is called on the community to use open image data standards and to insist that all imaging platforms support these file formats.
Abstract
Data sharing is important in the biological sciences to prevent duplication of effort, to promote scientific integrity, and to facilitate and disseminate scientific discovery. Sharing requires centralized repositories, and submission to and utility of these resources require common data formats. This is particularly challenging for multidimensional microscopy image data, which are acquired from a variety of platforms with a myriad of proprietary file formats (PFFs). In this paper, we describe an open standard format that we have developed for microscopy image data. We call on the community to use open image data standards and to insist that all imaging platforms support these file formats. This will build the foundation for an open image data repository.

GLP-1 Notch - LAG-1 CSL control of the germline stem cell fate is mediated by transcriptional targets lst-1 and sygl-1

TL;DR: It is shown that lag-1 is germline autonomously required for the stemcell fate and that elevated LAG-1 accumulation is spatially limited to the stem cell region by posttranscriptional regulation that, in part, requires lst-1 and sygl-1.

SynapCountJ --- a Tool for Analyzing Synaptic Densities in Neurons

TL;DR: SynapCountJ as discussed by the authors is an ImageJ plugin that can measure synaptic density of individual neurons obtained by immunofluorescence techniques, and also can be applied for batch processing of neurons that have been obtained in the same experiment or using the same setting.

The Regulation and Perturbation of Vascular Endothelial Permeability

TL;DR: A body of work is presented demonstrating the critical importance of endothelial permeability due to the widely-held view that endothelial dysfunction is a consequence rather than a cause of pathologic changes as well as to the incomplete understanding of the two routes of endothelium permeability and how they are interrelated.

MoBIE: A Fiji plugin for sharing and exploration of multi-modal cloud-hosted big image data

TL;DR: Facing the challenge of exploring and sharing multi-terabyte, multi-modal and multi-scale image data of heterogeneous dimensionality, MoBIE, a Fiji plugin that provides rich visualization features to enable browsing data from numerous biomedical applications on a standard laptop computer is developed.
