Journal ArticleDOI
Membrane-associated prostaglandin E synthase-1 is required for neuropathic pain.
Tamaki Mabuchi,Hiroyuki Kojima,Tetsuya Abe,Kunio Takagi,Madoka Sakurai,Yoshihiro Ohmiya,Satoshi Uematsu,Shizuo Akira,Kikuko Watanabe,Seiji Ito +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that PGE2 produced by mPGES-1 is involved in neuropathic pain, and this results demonstrate that prostaglandin E2 plays an important role in inflammatory pain.
Journal ArticleDOI
MyD88 Deficiency Results in Tissue-Specific Changes in Cytokine Induction and Inflammation in Interleukin-18-Independent Mice Infected with Borrelia burgdorferi
Aruna K. Behera,Ethan Hildebrand,Roderick T. Bronson,George Perides,Satoshi Uematsu,Shizuo Akira,Linden T. Hu +6 more
TL;DR: It is found that MyD88-deficient mice infected with B. burgdorferi did not show increased inflammation at sites typically associated with Lyme disease (joints and heart), however, there was markedly increased inflammation in the muscles, kidneys, pancreas, and lungs of deficient animals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Humoral Immunity and CD4+ Th1 Cells Are Both Necessary for a Fully Protective Immune Response upon Secondary Infection with Brucella melitensis
Marie-Alice Vitry,Delphine Hanot Mambres,Carl De Trez,Shizuo Akira,Bernhard Ryffel,Bernhard Ryffel,Jean-Jacques Letesson,Eric Muraille +7 more
TL;DR: This work identifies several immune markers closely associated with protective immune memory and could help to define a rational strategy to obtain an effective human vaccine against brucellosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Toll-IL-1 Receptor Domain-Containing Adaptor Protein Is Critical for Early Lung Immune Responses against Escherichia coli Lipopolysaccharide and Viable Escherichia coli
Samithamby Jeyaseelan,Rizwan Manzer,Scott K. Young,Masahiro Yamamoto,Shizuo Akira,Robert J. Mason,G. Scott Worthen +6 more
TL;DR: This is the first study illustrating the crucial role of TIRAP in the generation of an effective early immune response against E. coli in mice and in lung defense against a bacterial pathogen.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic approaches to the study of Toll-like receptor function
Osamu Takeuchi,Shizuo Akira +1 more
TL;DR: The Toll-like receptor (TLR) family plays a role in sensing invading pathogens and mouse models lacking each TLR and its signaling molecule are useful tools for the analysis of the innate immune system.
