Protective Role for Toll-Like Receptor-9 in the Development of Atherosclerosis in Apolipoprotein E–Deficient Mice

TL;DR: Genetic deletion of the innate immune receptor TLR9 exacerbated atherosclerosis in ApoE−/− mice fed a high-fat diet and administration of a type B CpG oligodeoxynucleotide TLR 9 agonist reduced lesion severity, thus identifying a novel therapeutic approach in Atherosclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Muramyl Dipeptide Enhances Osteoclast Formation Induced by Lipopolysaccharide, IL-1α, and TNF-α through Nucleotide-Binding Oligomerization Domain 2-Mediated Signaling in Osteoblasts

TL;DR: It is suggested that MDP synergistically enhances osteoclast formation induced by LPS, IL-1α, and TNF-α through RANKL expression in osteoblasts, and that Nod2-mediated signals are involved in the MDP-induced RANKl expression in bone-resorbing cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Induction of adaptive immunity by flagellin does not require robust activation of innate immunity

TL;DR: The results indicate that the degree of innate immune activation induced by TLR agonists may be in great excess of that needed to promote humoral immunity and, secondly, there is considerable redundancy in mechanisms that promote the humoral immune response upon innate immune recognition of flagellin.
