JAK2V617F+ myeloproliferative neoplasm clones evoke paracrine DNA damage to adjacent normal cells through secretion of lipocalin-2.
Yuki Kagoya,Akihide Yoshimi,Takako Tsuruta-Kishino,Shunya Arai,Takashi Satoh,Shizuo Akira,Mineo Kurokawa +6 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that JAK2V617F-harboring cells cause paracrine DNA damage accumulation through secretion of lipocalin-2, which gives proliferative advantage to themselves and an increased risk for leukemic transformation to both JAK 2V617f(+) and JAK1v617F(-) clones.
Journal ArticleDOI
Highly pathogenic avian influenza A H5N1 and pandemic H1N1 virus infections have different phenotypes in Toll-like receptor 3 knockout mice.
Y.H. Connie Leung,John M. Nicholls,Chuk Kwan Ho,Sin Fun Sia,Chris Ka Pun Mok,Sophie A. Valkenburg,Peter Pak-Hang Cheung,Kenrie P Y Hui,Renee W. Y. Chan,Yi Guan,Shizuo Akira,J. S. Malik Peiris +11 more
TL;DR: TLR3 worsens the pathogenesis of H5N1 infection but not of pH1N 1 infection, highlighting the differences in the pathogenic of these two viruses and the different roles of TLR3 in their pathogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lack of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase-1 gene product enhances cellular sensitivity to arsenite.
Anuradha Poonepalli,Lakshmidevi Balakrishnan,Aik Kia Khaw,Grace Kah Mun Low,Manikandan Jayapal,Rabindra N. Bhattacharjee,Shizuo Akira,Adayabalam S. Balajee,M. Prakash Hande +8 more
TL;DR: An important role for PARP-1 gene product in the maintenance of chromosome-genome stability in response to arsenite-induced DNA damage is suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Epicutaneously applied Der p 2 induces a strong TH2‐biased antibody response in C57BL/6 mice, independent of functional TLR4
Caroline Stremnitzer,Krisztina Manzano-Szalai,Philipp Starkl,Anna Willensdorfer,S. Schrom,J Singer,Ursula Reichart,Shizuo Akira,Erika Jensen-Jarolim,Erika Jensen-Jarolim +9 more
TL;DR: This work has investigated whether similar mechanisms are important for Der p 2 sensitization via the skin through the TLR4–CD14–MD‐2 complex and found that they are.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structural basis for the regulation of enzymatic activity of Regnase-1 by domain-domain interactions.
Mariko Yokogawa,Takashi Tsushima,Nobuo N. Noda,Hiroyuki Kumeta,Yoshiaki Enokizono,Kazuo Yamashita,Daron M. Standley,Daron M. Standley,Osamu Takeuchi,Osamu Takeuchi,Shizuo Akira,Fuyuhiko Inagaki +11 more
TL;DR: The structures of four domains of Regnase-1 from Mus musculus are reported and it is found that the NTD associates with the PIN domain and significantly enhances its RNase activity.
