Journal ArticleDOI

Concurrent induction of lymphangiogenesis, angiogenesis, and macrophage recruitment by vascular endothelial growth factor-C in melanoma.

TL;DR: The presence of intratumoral lymphatics and enlargement of lymphatic vessels at the tumor periphery in vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-C-overexpressing human melanomas transplanted onto nude mice is demonstrated and VEGF-C is identified as multifunctional factor involved in regulating tumor lymphangiogenesis, angiogenic, and immune response.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bone marrow-derived circulating endothelial precursors do not contribute to vascular endothelium and are not needed for tumor growth

TL;DR: The results show that no BM- derived VEGFR-2+ or other EC precursors contribute to vascular endothelium and that cancer growth does not require BM-derived endothelial progenitors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lymphatic vasculature: development, molecular regulation and role in tumor metastasis and inflammation

TL;DR: The lymphatic vascular system is important for immune surveillance, tissue fluid homeostasis and fat absorption, and is involved in many pathological processes, including tumor metastasis and lymphedema, and administration of lymphangiogenic growth factors or their antagonists provides the possibility of targeting lymphatic vessels in human disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Understanding the functions and relationships of the glymphatic system and meningeal lymphatics

TL;DR: The glymphatic system is discussed as a system that allows CNS perfusion by the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and interstitial fluid (ISF), and the recently characterized meningeal lymphatic vessels and their role in drainage of the brain ISF.
Journal ArticleDOI

Vascular Endothelial Cell Growth Factor Receptor 3–Mediated Activation of Lymphatic Endothelium Is Crucial for Tumor Cell Entry and Spread via Lymphatic Vessels

TL;DR: It is shown that VEGF-C produced by tumor cells induced extensive lymphatic sprouting towards the tumor cells as well as dilation of the draining lymphatic vessels, suggesting an active role of lymphatic endothelial cells in lymphatic metastasis, which may require the targeting of both tumor lymphangiogenesis and tumor cell invasion.
