Journal ArticleDOI

Early Recovery of Salmonella from Food Using a 6-Hour Non-selective Pre-enrichment and Reformulation of Tetrathionate Broth.

TL;DR: A new formulation of TT broth that lacks brilliant green dye and has lower levels of TT is employed in conjunction with a 6-h non-selective pre-enrichment period, enabling the recovery of Salmonella 1 day earlier than standard culture enrichment methods.
Journal ArticleDOI

Generation of free radicals from phenazine methosulfate, streptonigrin, and riboflavin in bacterial suspensions.

TL;DR: It is reported here that an EPR signal develops when any one of the inhibitorsphenazine methosulfate, streptonigrin, or rubiflavin-is added to a suspension of bacteria, and the existence and structure of these signals may prove important to understanding the mode of action of the inhibitor.
Journal ArticleDOI

Microbiomes Associated With Foods From Plant and Animal Sources

TL;DR: Assessment of microbiome profiles of plant and animal derived foods collected at two points in the manufacturing process revealed diverse and highly variable resident microbial communities across food products, which is informative in the context of food safety, and spoilage where indigenous bacteria could hamper pathogen detection, and limit shelf life.
Journal ArticleDOI

Extensive genome rearrangements and multiple horizontal gene transfers in a population of pyrococcus isolates from Vulcano Island, Italy.

TL;DR: The results illustrate the dynamic nature of the genomes of the genus Pyrococcus and raise the possibility of a connection between rapidly changing environmental conditions and adaptive genomic properties.
Journal ArticleDOI
